Phone calls

Featured Replies

Has anyone ever thought of making calls through their pc using phonefree.com or something else of that type.  That way you get your internet and phone calls all in one, I just thought this is a good idea since phone cards and other ways are moderately expensive.  I mean even if you're in a cafe you could still use one of these services.

Telephone via IP does NOT work so good in Thailand with normal dial up modems, due to limited international bandwitdth. But with a decent ADSL, leased line or Satellite connection it will be more reliable, but it cost a lot.

I have used www.net2phone.com for the last few years, using only a CS Internet Dial-up account.

I call to the UK frequently for 2/3 baht per minute, the quality is ok if you call during quiet times (thai daytime). I'm sure it will be perfect if you have some type of broadband service.

It is great to have an inexpensive way to chat with friends and family, I'd be a little lost without it (or atleast poorer for having to pay TOT 50 baht a minute).

Cost's of www.net2phone.com:

Calling from UK to Thailand $0.19/8Bht/12p p/min

Thailand to UK $0.05/2.15Bht p/min

Thailand to US $0.04/1.72Bht p/min

Quality will depend on your ISP and location (i.e. Patong, Phuket, no chance).

I have not been able to confirm this but I have been told that there is now a code you can insert between the international code and the telephone number which will half the cost of your phone call.

Works the same as the 1234 code for domestic long distance calls.

I will post the code here if it turns out to be true unless some one gets there before me.
