savanakhet multi-o visa.

Recommended Posts

Just returned from Savanakhet, Laos yesterday, having obtained a multi entry "o" visa, based upon marriage.

As described by previous posters, financial proof was not given,or asked for.

Had marriage certificate, visa application, usual photocopies and the 5000 baht fee.

Handed in at 9.00am,and collected at 2 pm the next day.

Thanks to all who provided information regarding this consulate and their requirements.

easy presuming this is based on marriage now if you do not like doing border run every 90 days you can extend this to 5 months for boarder runs, all you have to do, is before your 90 days are up go to your local immigration office and ask for extension based on wife you will need to take her, cost 1900baht, they will give you 60 days after that is finished do your boarder run this will then give you 90 days and again go and get another 60 day giving you 5 months every time before you do a run.

What if seeking muliti entry Non O based upon being parent of a Thai national child ?

Does that equal marriage visa ?

I travel quite a bit, and therefore do not normally stay over the 30 days on entry I get, but I would like to make a proper visa now.

you should be able to get a mulit non o based on having a thai child, you have to show your name on the birth cert at savanakhet

A multiple entry visa only gives a 90 day entry meaning you have leave every 90 days.

An extension of stay (it is not a visa) based upon marriage gives a one year permit to stay. With this you report to immigration every 90 days

is this confirmed? i get non o based on my child, but from Vientiane and i have never had the option for a multi.

Is anyone who has actually received one able to confirm here?

I have never seen a report of one being obtained without being the legal father by way of either marriage or legitimization. Having your name on the birth certificate is not enough.

The embassy at Vientiane is notoriously strict and has been for years. The consulate at Savannakhet is a piece of piss especially if you are married or have a child by a Thai national. There are friendly people who stay right outside the gate who will fill out your forms for you and do any other service (photo copies, passport photo's you may require) It isn't a busy consulate at all and the whole process is simple. I only live 80km from Vientiane but instead drove the 450km to Mukdahan just because it is so easy there. Also there is undercover parking right at the border for 200 baht for the night and if you stay at the casino they have a free mini bus service that will fast track you across the border. They won't bring you back though. Last time I will be doing it as I am now transferring to the marriage visa but Savannakhet wins hands down. I was only there 2 weeks ago no financial documents nothing they didn't even want to view the originals of my certificates either. Good luck.

How does 90 day reporting work for this, or is your visit to immigration for the 60 day extension counted as the 90 day report? (It is a requirement if you remain in the country more than 90 days at one time.)

Still, if you're not in the system, you're not in the system........................wink.png Sounds like a good work-a-round for border runs.

Is this truly the case what mikeanddow says??

If it is then I am very interested..

If so, what do I need to bring apart from the birth cert?

Thanks.

It is not correct info. As I wrote before I have seen no reports of one being done.

Getting the 60 day extension is considered as doing a 90 day report.

Calm down, calm down.

You stated to go to immigration before your 90 days permission to stay is up and get an extension of 60 days.

90 + 60 = 150 days (potentially)

I asked what about 90 day reporting as you would be in the country more than 90 days which seems to be a reasonable question without the risk of a 2,000 baht fine if some immigration chappie decides that you should have done it.

Thanks for the reply ubonjoe

I assume going in to get your 60 day extension (assuming you can do this) would be classed as doing your 90 day report.

Yep, looks like it, Ubonjoe confirmed that as correct in post #15.

Just visited Savanakhet trying to obtain 1 year, non-immigrant, based on supporting a Thai child. I was told that I can only get a 90 day non-immigrant and in order to get one year I have to show a marriage certificate which I don't have. They were willing to give me 90 day visa just by showing a Thai birth certificate without any paperwork from Thai courts which I politely declined because I still have time left on my current non-immigrant visa.

Thank you for your report. All though not good for you it does substantiate what I posted earlier in this topic.

You should go through the process of getting your parenthood legitimized.
