Anyone successfully volunteering Long term with a WP ?

preferably part-time ? or is this just impossible, no matter one skills, or willingness to take a very low salary?

I'm aware as a Non- O-A , I'd likely have to convert to a B type ? But, have a concern of being bored in retirement over there , etc ......

thx

It can be done if you find an organization work with that get the work permit for you. It would be a non-o visa not a B for doing volunteer work.

Per above, it is no problem. part-time is also no problem. The real challenge is finding an organization that is willing to apply for a work permit for you.

Extensions are for 90 days at a time, unless the organization can get a letter from a high government official such as the governor to support the application at immigration. In that case extensions are for 1 year.

The NGO most likely and willing to secure a long-term volunteer work permit for you is one where they have done it before and you will not be their first.

Visa takes care of itself in the process. The larger problem is getting some entity, business or NGO, to take you on long term and vouch for you for success in the WP getting process. The entity taking you on, free or pay, had better know how the WP process works because it is up to the entity of gather the documentation, which is not small (but most of the docs can be used for many employees, just customized a bit for each), that IT only can supply.

Once you have an entity hiring or engaging you, it should do the WP application and tell you what to do with your visa and how to do it. If the entity can not do these things, get another entity.

P.S. You are what creates boredom, not your environment, so keep that in mind "over here."smile.png

I was successful and had just posted it in TV. But I'm not sure if 'long term' by your definition are continued extensions or just 1 year.

My friend had hers for 4 years but she's disqualified in this topic as she did it full time.

I am just starting my first week.
