I've heard the Russians are going to hold a referendum and the results are will be to break away from Thailand.

It's going to be renamed Putinet.

I heard the same, except that it will become part of the Russia Federation.

It's an interesting thought. A "Hong Kong" of Thailand. But I can't ever see it happening.

Sent from my GT-N7100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

Sure it can, all you need is a few more Brits and you could call it Phuk Kong.

Maybe the Thais are hoping that it does become independent.

Then maybe it will just float off and hopefully sink

Can't do that, you'd miss it too much if it were not part of Thai Visa anymore :)

So you have not heard people talking about this? They have regular meetings about it? There is a committee for this. It might be years away but many Thai people think it will happen one day.

They want to have more ruling power but no independence.

"They want to have more ruling power" - I think any local Government that can keep public transport away from the people already has too much power. biggrin.png

Good idea, I'm all for it, this way it will be easier to "deport" all the undesirables,

scheme artist, thieves and murderers and rug dealers to Phuket on a bus....

... what have you got against carpet salesmen...?!

Gosh, my Hash name is Rug-doctor. Should I be worried?

Local govt does not finance public transport, Provincial or mainly federal govt do, and loose money by doing it

By "local" I meant Phuket - not a hard concept to grasp.

As for "losing money" - I see the baht buses in Pattaya making a lot more money than a lazy Phuket tuk-tuk driver who sits around all day waiting to rip off one tourist for a days wages.

Good riddance!!

When you come out with a quote like that would you mind revealing where you reside that is so much better?

The clue is in the name. Bangkapi is just another crap-hole suburb of Bangkok.

Just another envious and bitter farang.

The talk was about Thailand's main tourist areas becoming "Special Economic Zones" and therfore exempt from such things as 2am close of bars, and I suspect, casinos would be allowed in these zones.

It was to give these areas, officially, more autonomy.
