best/cheapest way to call US from a cel phone

Featured Replies

I tried what I assumed was the normal way to make an overseas call to the US by first dialing 01, then the area code and number in the US and could not complete the call.

Maybe there is another way?? easier, cheaper.........................and are all celphone company rates created equal??

land lines are cheap on 05 or 09

Thanks, but prefer to use cel phone and any idea what the charges are from land line??

I have Skype on my phone(s) and call Europe daily 1hour 2hours, the cheapest way I have found, of course need Wifi.

just found this on google and it seemed to work,

To call United States from Thailand, dial:
001 - 1 - Area Code - Land Phone Number
001 - 1 - 10 Digit Mobile Number

but when I dialed it, I got their answering machine............left a short message and hung up..........less than a minute and cost about 20THB

Not too cheap, so now asking if there are any of those discount discount calling cards like they have in the US for calling international at greatly discounted rates??

As above use skype, or a great alternative that gives you a US phone number and $1.00 credit is voxox.com As mentioned above, you will need an internet connection for your phone.

I usually make my international calls on skype or magicjack, but since the military have been slowing down the internet with their filtering, I can't get a decent connection even with my internet being the fastest that TOT has to offer.

Diall 006 then 1 then the number when using a cell phone.

Thats how I did it yesterday. ( I am on true network) 1.5 baht per minute

Thanks Charlie, I'll give that a try tomorrow morn, as all my contacts are sleeping now. Does that work on DTAC or is TRUE only??

I did manage to find this on google http://www.cthai.com/ , where you can call US for under a THB per minute, but as far as I can see on their website, you have to pay with your credit card and you buy a card with credit and a pin number. Would give it a try if I could purchase it a shop. Anyone else try this??

True Intersim 1 baht per minute

Been using it for a few years now hard to beat

refill anytime you like at 7/11 etc.

Quality of call always excellent

I can only speak of "true" as thats what I use.

I am pretty sure other networks will have similar facilities for international calling.

Yep, for a smartphone (with an Internet connection) use Skype for calling landlines and for a normal mobile phone use True Intersim at 1 bht a minute to landlines.

Calling mobiles for both Skype and Intersim is more expensive.

I call many cell phones as well as landlines in the US & have always paid 1 baht per minute on True intersim

Remember, Skype is only free from Skype to Skype. So the person you are calling has to be using Skype on their Smartphone, Laptop, Desktop, Smart TV etc.

Phoning a landline on Skype costs and even more so calling a mobile.

not sure if mentioned here

deedial is dirt cheap and easy to use

the connections not always so good

VOIP is probably why

Get a phonecard, commonly sold at Boots pharmacy. About 1/2 THB per minute to the US.

I use a CAT card ever so cheap ,you get hours for a couple hundred baht.

Using AIS phone service, I dial with 00500 + number. By far, way way cheaper than 01, 06, 07 etc.

The wifi apps are cheapest by far.
