Government allocates 6 million baht for Lamphun OTOP center

The government has allocated six million baht in construction funds for the Lamphun Province OTOP center.

Deputy Interior Minister Somchai Sunthornvut (สมชาย สุนทรวัฒน์) conducted a ceremony to place a symbolic plaque at the One Tambon One Product Center in Tambon Weang Yhong (เวียงยอง) of the Lamphun Municipality.

The government has allocated 6 million baht in funds for the center's construction, citing that OTOP products are the brainchild of Thai people and hold a long tradition of excellence.

Mr. Somchai added that the work of Thai people has received much acceptance in the international market in the past 5 years, accounting for as much as 200 billion baht in revenues.

The Deputy Minister added that this was a wonderful opportunity for the Lamphun people to display their skills in the creation of their OTOP products.

The phayao otop center has been completed over a year and no village operators were there, what has gone wrong with the phayao otop center? Now that whole row of shops looked like ghost center. Again, they are proposing another flop lumphun otop center.

You are right Maejo Man, they need to drum up some atmosphere for the next election, that's why they have all sorts of corrupt ideas.

In essence the OTOP scheme was sound, but like many other schemes it had no cohesion, and ipso facto, doomed to failure. Sad really....

I've said this before. To me , Otop is simply a way to funnel previously exported products through it's channels, profiting those at the (O)top.
