webfact
Tourism recovering after curfew lifted in 32 provincesBANGKOK: -- Tourism is now slowly recovering after the military junta lifted curfew in more provinces where the situation has turned normal and businesses are back running. Until today the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has lifted curfew in 32 provinces.Thai Hotel Association (THA) president Surapong Techaruvichit said after curfew was lifted in now 32 provinces, there was positive sign of response from both local and foreign tourists but it needed time for full recovery. He expected hotel occupancy rates to go up to 35-40% this month, though it is 15% decline when compared with 50-60% in normal time.He said online booking still keeps coming in while group tours still hesitate to come or put off travels. This was because insurance policy would not cover visiting tourists under martial law situation, he said.Hoteliers understand the current situation and the curfew as safety is their main concern, Surapong said.Meanwhile Koh Samui Tourism Promotion Association president Tanongsak Somwong said after curfew was lifted in Samui recovery sign was seen with good response from foreign tourists. He said as now it is entering high tourism season for Samui, it will become a stimulant for waiting tourists to make decision to book rooms and come.He said tourists mostly book rooms 14-21 days in advance before checking in. Clear sign of recovery is expected to be seen in July-August, he said, adding that there are about 16,000 hotel rooms in Samui, and occupancy rate is normally over 90% during high season. Popular Post NongKhaiKid
It's amazing how such a positive statement can be made only days after the curfew was lifted in more provinces. Are we to believe that as soon as the announcement was made hotel phones were ringing off the wall ?

Are we to believe that as soon as the announcement was made hotel phones were ringing off the wall ? Can we also assume foreign tourists are camped out at airports waiting foir the curfews to be lifted so they can flock to Thailand. A load of flocking BS if you ask me!

EricBerg
If the nightlife is restored the tourists are happy and will spend more money. It doesn't necessarily mean hordes of new arrivals are needed. But those numbers will go up as well. After all it's not only tourism recovering but all of Thailand is coming back from hard times.

FangFerang
Rubbish. Wishful thinking gone public. The bottom line is at a bottom...but no one can discuss that... It would be critical of you-know-who doing you-know-what and you-know-where. Amazing Thailand.

buck99
I ride my bicycle each morning along the beach in Jomtien and it's shocking how few tourists are there. I realize it's low season but to say that tourism is on the rebound is a bit optimistic.
