What is the pecking order in thai society? Just for fun nothing serious

After reading on one tv member on how his wife guards her laotian nationality with great care because if thais knew she was from laos they would treat her as poorly as they treat farang which is what that tv member told me and which i found odd because shouldn't farang be higher up on the pecking order?

So just me just draw up a rough guide and we'll see if you guys agree with me.

So are all thai citizens treated with more respect in thailand compared to non thais? Some ppl do give this impression but then again i see so many foreign influences in thailand and how thailand has a rather lax policy in letting in foreigners so i figure it cannot be as simple as all thais on top all non thais below. Let me show you my detailed list.

I think the highest would be the unmentionables but let me write it in list form.

1. Immediate royal family.

2. rest of royal family.

3. high ranking bkk politicians.

4. rich businessmen typically from bkk

5. middle class people from bkk

6. low income from bkk

7. foreigners from 1st world countries that know how to speak thai and know thai culture

8. thais not from bkk central region.

9. thais from the further parts of thailand depending on region that are rich or middle class

10. thais from the poorest region like issan that are rich or middle class

11. farang that don't know thai culture and are ignorant newbies but have some money

12. farang or foreigners from 1st world, 2nd world countries that aren't that rich and don't know much about thai culture newbies.

13. low class thais from poor regions like taxi drivers, motorcycle ferry guys

14. thai bar girls from poor regions and street hookers.

15. poor foreigners from surrounding countries working in low class jobs in thailand like burma, laos, cambodia

16. poor farang and down and out losers from 3rd world countries like africa, middle east.

So have i gotten the list correct?

Yup that's why the rich ones are listed up higher. It's the same in almost every country in the world. I don't you will see a country where a vagabond is ranked higher than a rich man.

I think more discussion would have started if you ranked nationalities

Eg, USA, uk, European, Australian, Japanese, Korean, rest of Asia, Indian, middle eastern, African

Anyone game to rank?

Brittania still rules ?

Status depends on ethnic background and skin color more than money.

So 1 & 2 are correct, the rest is rubbish.

Thai sex workers rank above western foreigners.

Issan Thai below Lanna Thai.

Hill tribe at the bottom of the Thai ranking, arranged by skin color.

Then you get to rank non-Asian foreigners by skin color.

White at the top, brown in the middle, black at the bottom.

It's more complex than that because it depends on the status of the person judging; eg A middle class Thai will always hold a prostitute below the average decent farang, but a tuktuk driver may rank her above.

oh yeah asian foreigners get ranked above non asians.

Op which one are you ?....my guess is 11 ?......simply because you referred to those personages from Africa or the middle east as farangs, if you were truly at one with your Thainess and a real TV cultural expert you will know that a farang is a personage from a western country. :P

The easiest way to understand it is everyone who is not descended from a Royal bloodline is a commoner. Monks come second teachers come third closely followed by doctors. The Military is held in particular high regard and everyone else depends on how much money they have or what good they have done for society.

I won't go into the nationalities or races that are disdainful to Thais but you should know who they are.

Are you referring to nonasians as every one that's nit oriental Asian? Or is it excluding firings?

The pecking order is based on money

At least none are in country...

To climb up the social-ladder: Use liberal amounts of Skin-Whitening cream or marry a Farang.

Cheers.

In the west, we call people that predict winning lottery numbers and promise "a happy live" for a fee of 5000 Bht charlatans or simply "white collar criminals".

The easiest victims are found among the most uneducated and poorest of the Thai population.

Cheers.

In the west we call belittling a group of 250,000 people for the actions of a few of them a sweeping generalisation.

Wai bother.

farang -rich or poor.-on lowest rung of ladder.....................lol. dont kid yourself guys.

Farangs are judged on who they are married to. Any poor girl or man married to an old farang will always been seen as a hooker whether she or he is or not. Any man or woman with a hooker will always be seen as the lowest of the low. They are seen by Thai men as to be used for the purpose and that's it, and pretty much all Thai women hate them.

As previously posted money talks and buys your education in this country and farangs are judged on how much their partners family have.

As for teachers being held in high regard , maybe in the boonies, but in industrial Thailand they are nobodies. Money talks.

Harsh, but true. Your reply will hit a few raw nerves on this forum.

Thais do have a pecking order like respecting the elders, elders in the family, people in position (not necessarily a good trait). But soon this pecking order will vanish when they get more westernizedcoffee1.gif
