Thailand Update: tourism back to normal

Featured Replies

I wanted to share below update from TAT news i've recently gone through... it might helps for those who plan to visit Thailand:

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is pleased to announce that all tourism-related businesses and services in destinations throughout the kingdom have resumed normal operations following the lifting of nationwide curfew as of last Friday (TAT Newsroom: Breaking News! Nationwide curfew lifted from 13 June 2014).

The lifting of nationwide curfew by the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), currently overseeing Thailand’s administration, came after the council gradually lifted curfew in major Thai tourist destinations over the last two weeks, thus demonstrating the council’s commitment to promote Thailand’s tourism.

TAT wants to assure all tourists visiting the kingdom that “it’s business as usual in Thailand” and that tourism remains unaffected by the current political transition period.

Thailand is always ready to welcome tourists to come here to enjoy their days in the sun and taking in the sights of the temples, mountains and beaches, as well as treating themselves to the many fine-dining, nightlife, spa treatment and shopping for which the country is famous.

All tourism-related businesses and services as well as all airports throughout Thailand, including at key destinations including Bangkok, Phuket, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Ko Samui, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai, Krabi and Phang-nga are operating as per normal.

Yes - but as per normal includes Jet Ski scams, Gem scams, taxi / tuk-tuk scams, two-tiered pricing, corruption, TAT would be better served if it spent less time issuing press statements and more time ensuring a safe environment for travelers. Thailand is an amazing place with amazing people; however, those who cheat and scam touritsts ruin the country's reputation.

Give them a little time...........they are coming to that soon.

Don't expect that everything will change in a day or a month.

But they are tackling, many issues and wrongdoings by the day.

We suffered a long time.........a little more will not hurt, but I am confident there is a brighter future for the Thais and also us foreigners.thumbsup.gif

The entire country is still under martial law (which presumably affects tourists' travel insurance cover). In theory at least, assemblies of more than 5 people are proscribed. Bars and restaurants must close at midnight (incidentally, that was always the law....). This is NORMAL???????

So many good stories we're reading................ The success of all these initiatives will be there for us all to see in coming months.

I am sure we all have been waiting for this announcement. Surprised it took this long.

You can still get insurance for Thailand and assemblies of more than 5 people are not proscribed. What isn't allowed are political gatherings. It's fine if you and 5 mates gather to go to a bar, shopping, or whatever. I've seen plenty of bars open later than midnight, so not sure where you get your info from. All of it appears wrong to me. Maybe you could confirm where you heard all of this? Are you in Thailand?

This another myth to make Thais feel good. my business in MBK which 90% depend on tourist is down more than 30%
