Teeth Whitening

I think pretty much every dental clinic offers it now.

Had mine done 5yr ago, biggest waste of money and most painful procedure I ever had.

Mine was whitening by light which seemed to burn bleach into the tooth.

Problem was they got some in the gum so it burned like hell.

Cost then 10k but, I think its the same now.

The rider they say is they can only whiten two shades back from what they are.

Pearly white shining soap star teeth forget it.

If you are a smoker or coffee drinker also forget it your teeth will already be too stained.

A better option and price comparable is veneers, that's my next shot at it.

However I accept that whitening procedures may have changes yet again.

I agree. Exceptionally painful and a complete waste of money. It damages the enamel on the teeth which makes them stain really quickly. I really regret having it done.

I had it done prior to having 5 fillings. I think it was 6000 thb. Been a long time. I didn't have any pain, and I think I got more than two shades whiter, but close to that. If it weren't for a potential mismatch with the new fillings; I would not have done it. I was pleased with the results. At the time, it had been 3 or 4 years, since I had been to the dentist.

It must have worked, because they've never recommended it since. I had great luck with the deep cleaning, too. I've got clean bill of health on the gums ever since. That can be a huge ripoff in the US. I think that was 1700 at SS Dental Clinic on Nimman.

Here is great insight on how the ripoff dentist work in the US....be glad you're in Thailand.

I asked about having my teeth whitened several years ago when I had a bridge replaced at Thantakit on Petburi. They said that they could only whiten four lower teeth in the front bacause all of my other teeth were covered by crowns and bridges. I found Thantakit to be quite expensive and don't recommend it. Wasn't very pleased with the bridge. It's not that the dentists are bad - it's the dental technicians who make up the prostheses. They are totally inept.

The cheapest solution is certainly to use some "Baking Soda" to brush your teeth once a week. If the effect should be stronger, it makes sense to be explained the different ways by an experienced professional. The price range is beetween THB 8000 - THB 16000. I have very good experience with a young dentist, Dr. Pisut who has worked in recent years on a daily basis in various hospitals (e.g. BNH) and dental clinics as a specialist in "beautiful teeth", dental restoration and difficult cases. Since he only recently has opened his own dental clinic in the Ratchadaphisek Road (next the MRT Exit), he offers introductory offers and professional "tooth whitening" costs with him at the time THB 6900 or as a couple for THB 13000. Since he is not specialized in foreigners, his new advertising is only in Thai. He himself speaks good English.

I occasionally use baking soda and Hydrogen Peroxide to whiten my teeth.

A level teaspoon of bs, add drops of HP to make a paste. Brush as with toothpaste but leave on for a few minutes. I repeat the process then rinse my mouth with water.

I have read it is best to brush your teeth normally prior to BS/HP whitening.

I try and do this a couple times a month but often forget, my GF reminds me tho smile.png it does work.

I am a smoker and drink coffee daily. My teeth are pretty sensitive (thin enamel ?) as I find even the normal dental cleaning process painful.

BS and HP are the common ingredients in many commercial whiteners.

Google search - teeth whiteners baking soda and hydrogen peroxide

I didn't find the procedures painful - once about 15 years ago in Australia and once 2 years ago here with a laser - but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone as my teeth are very thin and brittle now and they chip and break quite easily. Probably the result of having it done twice, and with hindsight I wouldn't have been done either.

A lot of people ask my husband where he had his teeth whitened - answer: nowhere. He cleans them (a lot better and for a lot longer than I do) 5 or 6 times every day and always has done. Too late for most of us, but it's the only method I'd be giving a recommendation for.

Best, most natural way to whiten teeth is by using activated carbon. It draws the tannins out much like it draws in poisons when in the gut. Amazing stuff, totally natural and very cheap. All chemists carry it. Google it!

Wouldn't recommend scrubbing baking soda onto teeth as it wears the enamel, though it is good in a mouthwash solution together with sea salt.

That is my understanding also, BS is an abraisive. My teeth are sensitive and they let me know if I overdo it.

I use a soft toothbrush and let the Baking Soda / Peroxide solution mostly just sit there. In a two minute application I likely only brush (lightly) 15 seconds, and only 2-3 times a month.

How do you apply the activated carbon?

Is it in powder form?

This is the first time I have heard of using activated carbon. Very interesting:)

Anyone else used that method? Please share:)

Prolonged usage of whitening toothpaste will render sensitive teeth. I use Sensodyn Repair and Protect alternately to minimise sensitivity.

Teeth whitening is harmful and damages the teeth.

Activated carbon is a proven Not Working method, don't bother with it.

Totally agree.

No need to be so vain anyway, just cause the movie stars have it done.

Just brush with a fluoride free toothpaste and floss from time to time.

All natural products "made in Thailand" and 100% sodium fluoride free.
