Well after last night. The worst ref has got to be Graham Poll. Sent 2 players off and forgot he'd booked a Croatian twice already. It was only when he booked him a third time that he sent him off :o

Poll has been, without doubt, the worst . . . What massive blunders - he does quite well in the EPL, so why is he stuffing up here so badly?

Best ones so far:

KAMIKAWA Toru (JPN) and

BUSACCA Massimo (SUI)

No he doesn't sing_sling, he's just as <deleted> in the EPL as well. The guy is an absolute moron and an embarrassment to English Football :o

Did i make it that obvious :o:D

When he referees at Man City, he never gives us anything :D The guy is a joke and should have his stripes removed or whatever they do to refs when they de-frock them :D

The old saying goes that the best referees are the ones that you never notice. If that's the case then I can't answer who has been the best referee at the finals because I ain't noticed him yet. :o:D

Manchester City? Ok, credit for not going for the obvious Mancusian club.

Since being posted to Singapore about 6 or so years ago, I've pretty much watched 90% EPL every Saturday and Sunday night due to the licensing laws. I'd say the worst referee in the EPL is Uriah Renny and that skinny guy with the big nose, can't remember his name.

Having to pick a 'favourite' team in the EPL I was going for Leeds, but . .. oh well . . kind of like my World Cup predictions - and the last few seasons I have liked the style of play that Spurs is showing and the cloggie pretty good too.

So, ManCity - where wil they end up this year mrbojangles?

Yep, gotta agree with that. He's a total dipstick as well :D

We're going to win it this year (and i say the same, at this time every year) :o But if not, i'm just hoping for a top 6 finish. We had it sorted this year and then, as per usual, we fcucked it up...........................again :D

If I knew you guys better and was sure you wouldn´t be insulted, I´d call you a bunch of big girls´ blouses for moaning so much about the refs!!!!! I´m a football dumbo (even though I´m now lengths ahead of Sing_sling...hee-hee...) but am always astounded by the fact that almost all decisions made by refs are correct - and I find that amazing considering that they are mostly split-second decisions without the help of cameras and replays. I can´t take massive criticism of refs serious............................

Being from Berlin is a good enough excuse for lack of football knowlege :o after all you have only got Hertha to watch, mind you , you do have the best selection of turkish players outside of turkey :D but the refs have been pretty bad, I wonder if any australian refs made the grade, but probably could not get their guide dogs through quarantine :D mind you the english ref did pity he did not bring his white cane with him, :D Nignoy

I think the referreeing hasn't been too bad on the whole - do you remember the last world cup when red cards were being given out for fun? The Mexican ref for England's first game was pretty rubbish and Poll obviously a disgrace, but other than that not too bad I don't think. The USA v Italy red-card-fest were all agreeable decisions I think. Especially the elbow to the USA player's face...

The linesman during the korean Swiss game was a joke

Didn't see that one. Ref for the Arg / Mex game was OK though...

He was....until he disallowed the Argie goal in the 92nd minute when it was in fact a legitimate goal..........or does the blame fall fully on the linesman for that???????

Posted

The ref in the German Sweed game Smiling at the player as he sends him off. If he was to send every one off for pulling at shirts they would be know one left on the field to play the game. :o

Posted

ref of argie and mexico game did a excellent job and kept up with the pace of the game.

dissalowed goal down to the linesman who thee ref relies on for help.

OK, I take it back, the refereeing has just gotten a whole lot worse. Holland Portugal ref was awful and the ref for the Italy Ozzie game made 2 mistakes, sending off the Italian player unfairly and then there's no way that should have been a penalty at the end.

Posted

It was really an interesting match btw Holland VS Portugal The ref is on fire !!!

And the the ref again spoilt the Australia Vs Italia game .. That wasnt a penalty at all.. It was a dive and the aussie player do not have the intention of bringing down his opponent

Posted

The penalty at the end of the Italy australia game WAS WRONG.

That game belonged to the skippy bastards.

Regards, a regular auzzie basher.

The ref spoilt the whole game .. he should let it go and play the extra time... i see a few of the italian player was smilling and they knew it wasnt a penalty :o

the standard of referees for such a massive competion is a disgrace.

so far i've not seen a good flowing game played. simply because the whistle hungry refs stop any momentum.

with the refs not being accountable to any body apart from the money hungry fifa. it beggars the question can and indeed would fifa favour any particular teams ie the big names or the home team.

remember back to the last world cup how spain and italy were knocked out after scoring perfectly good goals, but they happened to be playing the host nations.

the eventual winner will be decided by the refs and oficials.

bring back caluna and common sense.

Colina is in a fix for match fixing in Seria A. Hope they find he was clean.

FIFA has guidelines for referees for every tournament, and this year it appears it's out of touch with the real game, and referees follow it too strictly - it's unlike any EPL or Champions League games.

Players are caught by surprise, too. Many have given up on trying to make sense of refereing.

There should be a meeting sometime now where FIFA will decide on refs for the rest of WC and perhaps will see some adjustments.

this would be a start.

as for the final matches mabe they could set up a text service for the football fans to mail the best refs. it could be decided within a day or two, then the refs would be somewhat accountable.

as with these text services they normally give the correct results ie man of the match, player of the year etc.

as for colina's investigation, well very surprised, i'm with you on that one hoping he comes out clean.

I agree that the standard of refereeing has been appalling but I believe a lot of it is related to FIFA's new directives to try to cut out time wasting, diving, bad tackles etc. They should have issued these directives 2 years ago to all the major leagues so that the referees had a chance to follow them. On top of that they've basically told the Ref's that there's zero tolerance on mistakes. As a referee being at the WC is the highest honour so they must be ridicuoulsy nervous before they even blow the whistle to start the game.

Changing the subject slightly, I think FIFA need to clamp down more on players questioning the ref's decision and/or trying to intimidate him. Once he has blown his whistle he won't change his mind and for a world sport it sets such a bad example to people; if you watch rugby union the players can kick sh1t out of each other for 80 minutes but they never question a decision.

One other thing I think football could take from rugby is the playing the advantage rule, in rugby they play the advantage and if there's no real advantage they then go back to the infringement, last night in the Aussie game on of their players was fouled just outside the box, advantage was played and they got nothing at all from it, a free kick from that position could have been a lot more dangerous
