Hello gang

The wife and I need to make a visa run to activate an ED visa. We need it to be in Laos.

Which company would offers such a trip ? providing:

- It's in a bus and not a minivan.

- No reckless and dangerous drivers.

I had way too bad experiences with speeding drivers to be willing to put our lives in their hands once again.

As an alternative, would it be possilble to make the trip in a safer vehicle (ie: airplane, train) and have a serious agency there do the paperwork for the ED visa for us? Is there such things for Laos?

I've already searched the forums, but was unable to find updated infos for Laos visa-runs.

Thnx a lot for your help

You can get to Vientiane by air via Udon Thani and from there you can get a van to the bridge in Nong Kai.. Nok Air offers fly/ride service.to Vientiane via Udon.

You can also fly to Vientiane directly. Lao Southern airways has been reported as having the lowest fares.

You can take an overnight train to Nong Kai in a sleeper birth that is good.

You don't really need an agent if you have all the required paperwork listed here on the embassy consular section webpage. http://vientiane.thaiembassy.org/vientiane/en/consular/consular_check/

There are agents outside the consular section that will offer to help you.

Thanks a lot unbonjoe.

And if we decide for a road solution is there any reliable agency we could deal with?

There are companies that do the visa run to Vientiane that you can find doing a search. I would choose one that uses a bus verses the van if it was me.

Yeah seems a good idea to me also. I did several trips that almost turned into nightmares in pukhet and cambodia.

Thanks a lot

I think most visa run companies use the vans

So if you are not to keen on a long van ride I would suggest a flight to Udon then catch the van for a short 45 minute ride to the border.

There are plenty of touts / helpers outside Thai embassy in vientian that will help you with paperwork for a fee

Suggest you not go to hand in paperwork on Monday or Thursday as these days are when tour groups arrive and there are about 4 times as many applicants on those days

My Thai wife and I just went to Mocht Bus Station in Bangkok , booked 2 bus tickets for Vientiane for the next day (try to get lower compartment on the double decker bus-very nice) and was comfortable ride . Had booked 2 nites at hotel near bus station and was taken over to embassy to get my non-o visa, I had all paperwork and documents. Left paperwork there and then picked up visa next day. They also have an agent at front of embassy that can do the paerwork and speed he process for you (ask around if you don't see him) Can PM me if you want to know name of hotel and some restaurants you might want to try.

You don't need a package deal, just get on a bus. There's a premium to pay for them holding your hand.

And the agents outside, just filling the paperwork exactly like you would yourself and then putting on the surcharge.

Man up and go!

Good advice, ubonjoe. I took a first and last trip in a Thai driven van once. Not an advisable thing to do for anyone who wishes to live another day or do so with all limbs still attached.

It does not say where you are but I believe there is a plane from BKK to Savanakhett Laos. There is a Thai counsel in Savanakhett. You can get Visas there. I am sure they could activate your visa.
