Student killings - a never ending story

Here is an extract of a report in September 2012 where 150 students had to attend a Boot Camp which hoped to cause a change in the students behaviour. It failed!

Deadly rivalries between student gangs have seen several teenagers gunned down in Bangkok since the start of the school year in May, leaving the kingdom’s authorities scrambling for answers to a decades-old violent tradition.
Vocational colleges — schools notorious for incubating ruthless gangs who fight for the perceived pride of their institution.
“I stabbed a student in the head,” says Pond, a pimply 18-year-old who escaped prosecution for the assault but was fined a few dollars for carrying a knife.
“Sometimes I feel bad about it, but it’s what happens. We do it because it’s a legend, passed down from the seniors in our school. We do it for pride.”
The colleges prepare teenagers for a life of manual work, rather than going on to university, and the students are often viewed as low status by a society with a keen sense of hierarchy.
An epidemic of violence strikes at the start of every new school year, leaving ordinary Thais on guard for the appearance of students in public spaces, where disputes can lead to tragedy.
A bystander died after she was hit by a stray bullet in June as a group of students opened fire on a Bangkok bus in an attack that killed a rival gang member.
Guns, machetes and even improvised grenades were among an arsenal seized in a subsequent police crackdown, but the death toll has risen unabated with at least three more students killed and several others wounded since.

Rival Pattaya School Gangs in Knife fight
On Friday afternoon after school had finished for the day two rival gangs of students from two Pattaya Schools met and prepared for a fight which saw a number of them armed with pieces of wood and knives.
Police were called to the front of Pattaya School Number 5 on the Sukhumvit Road in Central Pattaya just after 5pm by concerned teachers who spotted the students preparing to fight outside of the school gates.
The rival gang were from the Potisampan School in Naklua and as Police arrived students fled in every direction. A total of 16 students were detained and one of them, aged 15, was arrested after being found in possession of a long knife.
Police and Teachers from both schools will work together to contact the parents of each child as an investigation into the cause of the confrontation continues.

This is the tip of an iceberg, Many killings do not even get into the press.
Many things have been tried by the authorities over the years, the question is what will it take to cause this to STOP?

They are described as students, but in fact are a dangerous bunch of no hoper psychopathic thugs with the strong potential to commit murder.

These types of youth gangs can be found in every country of the world, there is nothing exclusive about them in Thailand.

Some solutions would be to expel these thugs from the Universities and also shut down the so-called Universities that appear to be used as a base for these thugs. They should also be slapped with Anti-Social Behaviour Orders and made to do community work such as cleaning the streets, public toilets and banning these thugs from meeting in packs.
