Torrential rains set to lash Ranong province on July 1-5

RANONG, 1 July 2014 (NNT) - Ranong province’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department (DDPM) has warned the public to be mindful of heavy rains during July 1-5, especially those living near rivers and streams near the mountains.

Chavalit Nitornrat, the DDPM head in Ranong Province, said that heavy rains and gusty winds are set to strike the province sometime this week. Those living near bodies of water are advised to be cautious of possible forest runoffs, flash floods, and mudslides. People living in the islands and have to travel by boat are encouraged to be careful when setting sail, as the waves in the Andaman Sea can become very powerful.

Elsewhere in Satun Province, there have been cloudy skies and scattered rains today. The deputy provincial governor, Ms. Weeranan Pengchan, has therefore, ordered the provincial DDPM to warn the people about the weather conditions. Fishermen are also unable to set sail at this point due to strong ocean currents.
