Correct.

With a visa you do not need to show a ticket out.

whistling.gif Yes.

Almost certainly an O-A visa will mean no problems. It's like the "Rolls Royce" of visas.

The rule of thumb is that anyone with a valid visa of any type (including a tourist visa) will not be questioned about an "onward ticket" by the airlines.

Usually they only question those who have no visa.

That's also why we advise people that since almost all "onward tickets" are more expensive than paying for a visa ..... that a visa is the cheapest form of "onward ticket" to buy.

It's also nearly impossible to have a ticket if you gonna stay those 12 months. You have to buy it more than one year before you fly. No airlines I use let you do that

Yeap...one way ticket is fine....I came over on a one way ticket with my O-A visa X-years ago. The airline check-in did mention I was suppose to have a ticket out until I pointed out the O-A Visa in the passport...then everything was fine.

Agreed with everyone. I've been coming on one way tickets for 12 years now. I think in the early days they used to ask to see funds or credit cards to buy onward tickets but that might have been when I was getting 'visa on arrival'. Non IMM you won't have a problem.

Both O-A and O visas don't need tickets out of Thailand

Agreed. But will they ask you to prove some funds?

Hi all, my 0-A Visa expires in October, what is the best way to get another One.....I have the required Funds!!!

If your OA visa is a multiple entry visa which I am sure it is. You can leave the country just before it expires and get another one year entry. Then if you want to travel after the visa expires you will need a re-entry permit to keep the last entry valid.

If you have already done the extra year then you can apply for an extension of stay at immigration during the last 30 days of your last entry.

When I apply at the embassy, I have to show prove of funds to get those visas

Is there any other kind than multiple entry when it's O-A ?

There might be some odd Thai embassy or official consulate that sill does single entry OA visas somewhere.

I had purchased a one-way ticket from SFO/BKK in Feb...I had a O Visa with a re-entry also but for some reason Eva this time was concern and questioned me regarding the one-day ticket and seem concerned that I could not stay longer than 30 days. I understand the agent were told to do their job but the impression I got they had no idea what they were asking nor looking for on my Passport? They kept flipping the pages on my passport looking confused so I ask them " what are you looking for and is there a problem " I had to show and explained to them my O Visa and the re-entry stamp and that I'm retired in Thailand and can come and go as I please for a year.

Haven't you already done that to get visa.

At immigration normally proof of funds is not asked for with an immigrant visa.

Currently it is sometimes asked for from people who enter regularly on visa exempt entries and are suspected of working in Thailand. Not having sufficient funds is than a formal reason to deny entry.

Sorry it was a Message from another Member,

Thanks Again,

I arrived in Thailand on the 2nd of May 2014 with a one-way ticket & no Visa, I had about 3,500Baht in my pocket & not once was I asked about additional funds, not sure if it'll be the same when I apply in Laos for a 3 month Non-Imm Visa end of July though, but I will take copies of UK bank statements with me to prove I have monthly income

With regard to travelling abroad in the second year, the point raised by the OP may need to be borne in mind. When I returned from LGW in 2010, the check-in assistant was initially adamant that I couldn't board my flight because my OA visa had expired and I wasn't in possession of an onward ticket. After explaining to her the significance of the re-entry permit, she did eventually relent and allow me on to the plane, fortunately.

Since then, however, I have made 3 trips back to Europe, with no recurrence of this problem when checking in for any of the return flights. This may partly be because the re-entry permits were in each case backed up by unexpired extension of stay stamps in my passport. But equally likely is the possibility that attitudes at CDG, which was my destination airport for each of these 3 trips, are rather more relaxed than they were at LGW!

Both O-A and O visas don't need tickets out of Thailand

That depends on the embassy you contact.

In Japan the O-A doesn't need an outward ticket but the O does, here is the information from the website.

As I'm going there on Thursday I'll try to find out if it is flexible

5. Airline ticket or confirmation slip with applicants name, flight number as well as date of entry and departure.

Agree with you. Some embassies/consulates will require air ticket out for an O (I know from experience). So everyone needs to check with that themselves at where they're applying.

However there are two issues here:

1. What embassies/consulates require

2. What airlines require to allow boarding to Thailand

From the airlines POV, ANY visa should be OK to board with a One Way ticket.

I have a non O multiple visa. It would be impossible for me to have all those tickets. For a single it would also be difficult if I like to travel in the end of the 12 month visa.

Who said you would need more than ONE ticket out (in case of any needed)? I once was forced to buy a THROWAWAY ticket to meet the O application requirements of a consulate. I threw it away. Sorted.

When you apply for the visa at the embassy, it's more than 12 months before the visa will expire. I can't buy tickets that far ahead. The airlines and travel agents don't sell them

I suggest asking your target Thai embassy for THEIR air requirement when you apply for the visa you're applying for, IF ANY. Then if there's a problem, you can come back here with actual issues.

I have that visa. And I don't have to show any tickets. Neither in the Embassy(which they also confirm on their webpage) or at any of the airlines that I have used

Great. So no issues then.

Yes O-A single entry is standart, when I apply in Germany and I have to buy multiple entry by arrival 5000 THB extra.
