Tropical Storm Arthur to become a hurricane to hit US east coast on July 4

US: -- BEACHES and tourist sites have been closed as a hurricane is forecast to hit the US east coast tomorrow — July 4.


Tropical Storm Arthur is on track to reach hurricane strength by the US national holiday with authorities taking pre-emptive action with fierce rains and heavy rain forecast.

Tropical storm warnings and hurricane watches have been issued along North Carolina’s coast after the first named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season strengthened overnight.

The US National Hurricane Centre said the hurricane will hit most harshly at North Carolina’s Outer Banks, a popular getaway spot of thin barrier islands along the shore.
