Retirement visa extension.

Featured Replies

Hi, just getting to work on a extension for a retirement visa and I have a question. To me it seems strange that you should go to immigration, to apply for an extension, on the last day of your visa. This doesn't leave any time should I encounter problems with the application. I think some wiggle room is needed here. Any problem with me going a week prior to the visa ending? Any experiences out there? Thanks...

You can apply for an extension up to 30 days early, at some offices even 45 days.

The extension always starts when the current permission to stay ends, so you don' lose anything by going early.

Immigration encourages people to extend early and not wait till the last days, precisely because sometimes people forget documents etc.

Always go early if you can meet the requirements early - you are allowed up to 30 days everywhere and many places, including Bangkok, have increased that to 45 days. You lose nothing as extension starts at end of current allowed stay.

This makes a lot of sense and lessens the stress involved as well. Appreciate your help, Jack.

i did mine in Phuket and 28 days before the current extension was due to expire.

no problem and have been doing it this way for 8 years ( at least 25 days in advance)
