Both sides were not top-class.

Red for Materazzi was too hard. yellow should have done it.

Then Neill, falling down in front of Grosso, who stumbled over him. No chance, this must be a penalty, albeit a very lucky one for Italy. Neill just should have stopped instead of falling in front of Grosso. Unfortunate, but Australia got themselves out.

I had hoped for a goal just to finish the game and me to go to sleep, was boring already in front of the TV. Sorry for OZ, had hoped for them but really no real game for either.

Went to sleep and hear Swiss-Ukraina was more boring. :o

Ahh .. what an empty feeling this morning. Well we can all be proud of what they accomplished this world cup and the future is bright for us qualifying and playing regular competivite games in the Asian federation.

We paid the price for being unable to break down their back four ,and always looked vulnerable on the counter. The penalty was fair by the letter of the law but many refs would let it go as he had beaten the man and Neill was pulling out of the tackle.

Well, its nice to see you Aussies having a moan about diving. Welcome to the Wide World of Football fellas!

Now, maybe you can see where we Poms have been coming from for so long now?

Unlucky guys. Going out to a penalty or penalties is bad enough but must hurt even more in the last minute of stoppage time.

It's curious that when thousands of Aussies throw bottles and go on the rampage after losing a football match, they are called 'disappointed fans'. When England fans do it, they are mindless and vicious hooligans.

Oh well.

I feel for the Aussie team. Although I have to say they never looked like winning, it was a hard way to go out. I think the Italians were just too tight and well organised for them. The Aussie spirited game was too much for the Japs and Croatia, but this is Italy we're talking about.

I actually thought it was penalty. A very unlucky one, maybe, but a penalty nonetheless. But I do empathise .. . . I would hate to go out like that.

I'm interested in Aussie's attitudes to Harry Kewell. I've just checked ESPN website where there are three different views of his injury.

According to Hiddink, his groin strain flared. According to Viduka and others in the team, it was an ankle injury. According to Chipperfield, it is gout. What the hel_l is going on with that man? Hiddink also defended him yesterday saying that he had been up and training at 7.30 every morningto get fit, yet last not he was hobbling around on crutches. Something is not right there. Is he just scared of 'showing up'

When he was at Leeds, he disappeared when things werent going his way. We called him 'Hands on Hips Harry'. At Liverpool he has a reputation for being injured when things are going bad. Against Japan in the first game he was anonymous after the Japs scored.

Compared to the fighting aussie spirit shown by lesser players like Neill, Bresciano etc he is a bloody disgrace. So much talent, yet so lazy and so little bottle.

I find it hard to believe it is gout, it is very treatable with an injection straight into the affected area, have had it done myself.

Off topic but what exactly is gout? I've heard it's from eating and drinking rich foods etc but what is it? :o

To much uric acid in the blood causes crystal deposits in your joints. Symptoms are swelling and arthritis like pains..

gout is a very misunderstood disease and a lot of doctors dont understand how to treat it either.

Quite simply it is an accumulation of uric acid in a joint, which then crystalises and leads to a painfull condition and is a form of arthritis.

There are a couple of reasons that the acid accumlates, you make too much or your body cant get rid of it quickly enough.

In my case I my body manufactures too much acid so my medication limits this production, but if things get out of wack then I have to take another drug which gets rid of it.

The classic gout attack usually occurs in the big toe which swells and you cant even put a bed sheet over it because of the pain.

The thing to realise is that you have gout for life and if you do have an injury in a joint gout has a habit of migrating into that joint.

As I said its a life sentence and you must take medication for it every day, I went a year without it once, thought I was bulletproof, but it came back with vengance and took nearly another year to get things under control.

Rich foods dont neccessarily cause it, seafood is a classic, but I have no probs with them, its an individual thing and you have to work out your problem foods, green peas can affect me if meds arnt up to spec.

Oh well. Time to brush up on "3 lions on the shirt" & En-ger-land chants and join the bandwagon. Please beat Italy in the final now :o
