After reading many, many opinions on the subject of the military coup I have come to a conclusion - that the only ones who the military is not "returning happiness to" don't deserve it anyway, are probably pseudo PTP/red supporters and would not be missed if they all evaporated tomorrow.

I know I would be happy. biggrin.png

Yeah, right.

The electorate of over 30 million Thai's don't deserve "happiness" because you say so.....

What an individual you must be...

Long live the coupe and let's see what happens in 2-3 years.

The economic mastery and management skills of the Thai military dictatorship are impressive. In just one year Thailand will be the world leader in happiness and stability. Economic, operations, and investment decisions made today by the generals will all be a success and there will be no accountability. Everyone will be happy, there will be equal right before the law for everyone, justice and equal opportunity for all. The Thai press will be reformed and instead of being a pandering lackey will be a citadel of truth and informed factual writing. Everyone in Thailand will be happy beyond their wildest dreams.

It sounds like Thailand will make North Korea take second place in being the world's leader in happiness and stability.

Gen Prayuth revealed that more than 50 billion baht in the coffers had not been used,

How could Thaksin Yingluck have overlooked such an amount of earnings

And how many of them are red supporters and how many voted for them just because of 500 Baht, for a tablet, for the rice scam, because the headman told them so?

According to Philw's reply, every eligible voter in Thailand voted for them.

Lets just be real, the whole economy is dropping 2% in growth just due to the fact that there is a Coup!

This nation should be growing, but many nations shy away in dealing with Thailand during a Coup.

Best thing Thailand could do is:

- Junta Call elections in 6 months

- Reform the police and make it clear, if the Police is not reformed, the Military will continue Marshal Law until the Police is fully reformed.

- Continue Military reforms for Human Trafficking.

Well, that's good news for me. If they adopt a policy of not allowing the baht to appreciate my pension is a lot more comfortable than if the baht goes back up to 28 to the dollar again. Of course the overvalued dollar is going to fall eventually, but I hope inflation will take off in the U.S. and I get some COLA raises before that happens. 2% growth doesn't seem like an unrealistic target for the Thai economy, though I admit I haven't looked up what the recent history has been. Outside of Bangkok it feels like the economy has generally done better since Thaksin was elected, although Suthep and the Democrats succeeded in preventing any growth last year. Rather like the Republicans in the U.S.

Let's be real, despite the seven months of political bickering, anti-government protests and anti-anti-government protests and cowardly attacks in the night on anti-government protesters, the expectations for the GDP already had dropped to below 2% and that would be accepting government forecasts.

It would seem the result of the coup may well be an improvement or at least keeping the GDP from falling further.

A bit late to this thread, but I see typical military thinking here: a command is a command and the result must show up!

(insert reference to the bazzillion of the "Hitler screeching" spoofs on YT here)

Just that civilian life doesn't respond too well on commanded suggestions, and economy is a whole different creature.

Even before the NCPO stepped in the BoT and some government departments came with similar figures.

Of course, if you feel that civilian life doesn't respond too well on commanded suggestions, and neither the economy, you're completely in opposition to the brilliant people we had in Ms. Yingluck's handpicked cabinet.
