sriracha john Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Skytrain extension to open next June A new stretch of the Skytrain system across the Chao Phya River will open in June next year. The route will link Taksin Bridge station to a new station in Thon Buri. The fare for the crossing will be Bt10, but no fare on the train service will exceed Bt40. Apirat Sivapornpitak, who heads Bangkok Metropolitan Administration's Traffic and Transportation Department, Monday said the extension would be finished by the end of the year. "After that, we will test the system and then allow members of the public free rides," he said. Apirat said the official opening would be in June. The Nation
Rinrada Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 Thats no good ...I live in the other direction......
AsiaWolfie Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 yes, "LONDON.U.K." is quite obviously in the other direction , I feel pity for you, Rinrada
dantilley Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 So it's 10 baht to cross it? Sounds very reasonable, given the length of track to the first stop over the river from Saphan Taksin.
Maestro Posted June 26, 2006 Posted June 26, 2006 A new stretch of the Skytrain system across the Chao Phya River will open in June next year....and it could have opened much sooner had it not been for the obstinacy of YOU KNOW WHO.--------------- Maestro
TokyoT Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 ANY expansion of the mass transit system in BKK is welcome news. May they have more luck in meeting the proposed schedule than the guys working on the airport.
PeaceBlondie Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Will that make it faster and easier to get to the Southern Bus Terminal, or whatever the Thais call it?
Rinrada Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 yes, "LONDON.U.K." is quite obviously in the other direction , I feel pity for you, Rinrada And just like over "ere life as we all know begins and ends South of the river.....as well as North of Watford Gap. Walked over Taskin Bridge once but didnt like the place....just like Southark...full of.....chav....... : :
AsiaWolfie Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 Will that make it faster and easier to get to the Southern Bus Terminal, or whatever the Thais call it? not really, Thaksin bridge is far away and much more in the Southern part of BKK than the Southern Bus Terminal (which has its name not from a "southern" location but from the fact that the busses from there run to South-Thailand)
The Skipper Posted June 27, 2006 Posted June 27, 2006 The guys running the boat mafia won't be to pleased to hear the news. Going to cost them a fortune when all their customers go overhead. Good.
Scott Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Being "The Skipper" I figured you'd be more sympathetic to the boat mafia!
MarkBKK Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 yes, "LONDON.U.K." is quite obviously in the other direction , I feel pity for you, Rinrada And just like over "ere life as we all know begins and ends South of the river.....as well as North of Watford Gap. Walked over Taskin Bridge once but didnt like the place....just like Southark...full of.....chav....... : : Ah yes. People from North of the river. We have a special name for them in London proper: ''Thaiwats'' (the ''hai'' is silent in SE London).
Gary A Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Maybe NOT! The last time I took a boat over it cost 3 baht but that was several years ago. The guys running the boat mafia won't be to pleased to hear the news.Going to cost them a fortune when all their customers go overhead. Good.
Maestro Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Is this where the station is going to be on the Thonburi side? -------------- Maestro
English Noodles Posted June 28, 2006 Posted June 28, 2006 Maybe NOT! The last time I took a boat over it cost 3 baht but that was several years ago. You were over charged it should only be 2 Baht.
CbrLad Posted July 1, 2006 Posted July 1, 2006 Is this where the station is going to be on the Thonburi side? -------------- Maestro That would seem to be roughly the right location, with a second station futher towards the intersection with Taksin Road. Will be interesting to see what they do to the existing Sapan Taksin station in the long run. It is only designed for a single track. Maybe not so bad with the line running one more stop to the other side of the bridge, but once they start opening up even futher out it will really need to become two platforms, which looks like a complete re-build would be needed.
