That might have a lot to do with the way Suthep was blocking parts of Bangkok.

Suthep would never have took to the streets if the PTP run the country even remotely resembling something other than an absolute calamity and cesspool of corruption. Or attempting to ram through an amnesty bill that was designed to forgive terrorists, corruption in the tens of thousands for the sake of one corrupt, terrorizing mass murderer. A gecernment who broke every democratic principle along the way and acted against the constitution.

They were giver 2.5 years to show what they were capable of and we all saw exactly what they were capable of.

That is why people ended up being inconvenienced by protests.

Had there never been any protests and the government had been allowed to continue, Thaksin would have been PM again by last Christmas and he would have owned both upper and lower house, and if this same poll had been conducted, I can guarantee that the figures would have been at the absolute polar end of the spectrum.

The country would have been well on the way to bankruptcy as well with 2.2 million of extra debt to be paid back by our children and grandchildren at a staggering 280 million baht a day for 50 years.

Yeah right.... It's all Suthep's fault.

To me, Suthep deserves a statue in the middle of Bangkok for what he has done for Thailand.

I'm always amazed at how people can wander around absolutely oblivious to the last 60 years to Thai history.

You think that is amazing. clap2.gif

How about the ones who wander around dreaming of the 60 years of history and are completely oblivious to what is right in front of them.cheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Do you even have a clue what you are talking about.

I don't know my way around Bangkok but even I know that the traffic problems were in a relatively small area compared to the size of Bangkok.

Unfortunately as great as the poll is I have a high distrust of Thai polls. To many taken by clueless people like you.wai.gif

Got to be honest John it was pretty disruptive, bit like targeting multiple sites in a sq mile of any capital city

Bangkok-Map-23-Jan.jpg

Marching off all over the place causing further road closures at a moments notice and building takeovers and subsequent access roads didnt help none either. Never knowing day to day where would be just usual high volume traffic of total standstill.was a total pain in the butt if in a vehicle... bts and walk or mototaxi was pretty much the best and only sensible way to get about in that map area, major headache in traffic volume all other parts just by sheer diversion and way Bangkok is set out... number of times i went all the way round Bangkok to get from A - B which is a good 3 or 4 times longer on distance but a heck of a lot quicker than through that lot.

why you would say it wasnt a major traffic problem for quite a few months is beyond me.

It is amazing what criminalizing dissent does for opinion polls. It's all good new from here on.

Considering that polls are 100% anonymous, sort of totally pulls the rug out from under your accusations of the military follow ups to this poll.

You and your lot trying to foment political disharmony by any chance?

Thought so.

If the poll results were unfavorable do you think they would have been published?

All news these days, from all countries, should be filtered with a bit of wisdom and historical perspective.. And especially here.

I wish this country all the best and I truly pray they have turned a page in their history.

But leopards and their spots...

oH! Come on.... really. Nice idea of a poll, but in all honesty??

- 88.52 percent said they feel happier as peace has been restored and several problems addressed;

How much disruption to a peaceful life existed for 89% before the coup?

- 81.96 percent said they can travel as usual and with more convenience;

Really? 82% Couldn't travel as usual inconveniently? Go way.

- 68.04 percent said their lives have returned to normal and they can work as usual;

68% had abnormal lives, and couldn't work as usual?

- 64.21 percent said they follow up information from the National Council for Peace and Order.

Hopefully, 64% have taken up an interest in following politics.

Regarding changes in the family:

- 93.53 percent said that atmosphere in the family has improved as people don’t have to be worried with safety problem;

What? 94% had previous family safety problems? ... yeah right...

- 79.41 percent said they have more time to spend together among members of the family after office and school hours;

79% can now be bothered to spend time with their family? Not that much has changed then, as the curfew was after 10pm, and most Thai families are in bed and asleep before then, as a matter of course.

- 72.55 percent said their livelihood has been well taken care of and they can work more conveniently

72% had uncared for livelihoods, and now it's all hunky dory?

- 63.14 percent said they have more discussion on problems of the country. Hum.. point made.

Regarding changes among friends, relatives and colleagues:

- 90.20 percent said they are happy and less stressed and can socialize more often;

90% of Thais were stressed and never socialised before the coup? I didn't observe such.

- 84.71 percent admitted they are more open-minded and receptive to differing opinions;

Good.. maybe reds will realise they were all duped!

- 68.43 percent admitted they are more aware of public interests, more patriotic;

Thais have never been unpatriotic, as it's inbred in the vicious national anthem words... drilled every morning at school!

- 62.55 percent admitted they are less resistant to political activities.

Regarding changes in workplaces and learning institutes:

- 92.35 percent said they have become more interested in following up events from the printed and broadcast media and social media;

They are more interested in placing opinions of FB and Twitter more like, as they follow leaders doing the same.

- 83.73 percent said their work and school lives have returned to normal.

83% of Thais had school disruptions and abnormal schooling? What?

This poll must have been 90% conducted in Bangkok, and not throughout the provinces.

It stands for nothing, means nothing, and results in nothing.

Can you explain why it had to be taken in Bangkok? I by no means have my thumb on the pulse here in Chiang Mai but from what I have observed the people are happier. Even though this is the heart of red shirt country. Homeland to the disposed Shinawatra clan. I still see a lot more people smiling.

I agree with the poll results, people I interact with on a daily basis all say similar..

That has been my own experience and I live in a complete red area of Thailand and they are more than happy the PTP are gone and the Junta are running the show.

Things are getting done.

As the full extent of the rice scam becomes known, Isan people will step away from the red shirt

nonsense. They now realize they have been played like a fiddle. If Prayuth can continue

to root out corruption, then at some point they will realize that life without corruption draining away vast amounts of money, is a good and happy life. That is why I think it is critical to show Thaksin for what he is, in order to stop his support from Isan people. And the very concept of " red shirt"

villages will simply become a bizarre footnote in Thai history....

Well much as I dislike Thai polls I heard one taken in Issan showed 60% in favor of the army. I was not surprised.

I had heard rumors months ago that there was a lot of red shirts who wanted Thaksin out of politics. Now the

farmers have the payment for their rice and I am sure that is going to make the army look better for them.

Now if we could just finds a way to stop posts that require the screen to be shifted It would be great.

I write in short lines hoping to get it all in with out some one having to shift the screen or make

it so small they have trouble reading it.

I knew it had to be a PTP fan who would post a big picture of about a .01% of Bangkok on it to back up a stupid post.

I am glad that 90% of people are happier now. Good for them.

Well thats 1137.6 of the usual 1264 dusit polls, indeed good on them, only need to ask the other 66,227,862.4 and it might be worth noting.

PS the .4 is a farang almost half way through his PR smile.png

If it had been 80/20 or 70/30 or even 60/40 then it of course would have still been published.... it's a poll and an anonymous poll.

If it had been 40/60 or 30/70 then it would probably been put before the Junta for permission to publish the results.

Certain folks here back into reality whenever they want, because nobody is being hauled to prison.... Stop believing the foolish comments here from the red farang minority and their stupid claims.

PPS hello Mork calling Orson. Have you been smoking your socks again?

Apparently it is OK for you to condescend me and belittle me without your posts being removed, but I rebut a TVF member with respect and no congestion and my posts are removed.

I stated (without referring to the poster or the hard working mods);

That is an interesting reply and in no way will I reference the PTP. I respect your view points, but I would like to constructively offer my opinion.

My post is simply to state that military rule can be a tool used by a good or an evil toolmaker. I feel General Prayuth has good intentions and I would like to address this as well as highlighting your comparison between the Thai Junta and North Korea Junta in this post if I may.

When is democracy ok and when is it ruthless autocracy as in the South Korean coup backed my America? Democracy is a tool and in the rights hands is a handy tool. Contrary to popular belief, democracy is not a unified global ideology and is instead like any tool - only as good or bad as the hands it finds itself in. The use of democracy by two governments no more indicates an affiliation than would guns in the hands of two opposing armies on a battlefield. If I held a gun as opposed to a criminal holding a gun you would likely trust me more. The gun is a tool and depending on the user it can be good or threatening.

The General has achieved a great deal in 40 days and has shown his sincerity in reform. He has even short-listed a cabinet predominately made up of ex Thai Rak Thai ministers. TRT was a Shin backed government. Good on him. I hope the best people are in the most appraise positions to serve the people.

In this case the Junta in Thailand is offering reform, reconciliation and a pathway to democracy. The Junta in North Korea are not.

Have the North Korean regime summoned and released potentials people that are threats to stability? No. Have the Junta? Yes.

Have the North Koreans assassinated people that are threats to their reign? Yes. Have the Junta? No.

Democracy like military rule is a tool. Used in the right hands it is a blessing. Used in the wrong hands it is evil

Military rule was needed, yearned and welcomed by 90% of the people and in the General's hands is the right tool for the job.

Have a nice evening.

<EDIT> I have the utmost respect for all mods on this forum however and maybe I am not aware of the intricacies of forum rules.

I was addressing John in PPS and it was a joke... look it up .. unless your john I thought your name was jamie. No offence was directed at you or indeed john.

Do try to lighten up Jamie and try not to quote 90% of the people in numbers when referring to the entire country we all know its not that, it makes you look rather silly.

Do you actually live in Thailand because if so you may be entitled to your opinion but it dosnt mean its the only one just because there are directives on what can be spoken... I suspect your in a western country enjoying everything about a democratic system allows you as am i for the first time for summer in years for a change and its great.. All Juntas have the same in common, guns boots and force... only the methods or extremes differ. if you wish to lavish love and adoration on the general your totally entitled but do try not to take it so personal if others dont go to your extreme theres a good chap. thumbsup.gif

Thanks for mentioning the hard working mods your right its a thankless task I moderate 2 other non Thai related forums myself.

Were you in Bangkok trying to get about during the protests and actually experiencing the troubles and disruptions ?

No you wernt whereas I was and trying to get from east to west and south on a daily basis at times, not fun. I can tell you for certain it was disruptive to the majority of the main center and trade, and the spill over by people having to avoid that area had a marked effect on most other roads that is what i posted your map for.

Sorry but ive been to the states and its off my bucket list but thanks anyway.. you are a rather grumpy chap today, roads busy round your way or something ? .. i can relate to that...

WOW. What a surprise. Another unsubstantiated claim. Kinda like "I have yellow friends that allow me to hear both sides of the story"

Do I live inThailand?

Mate…….How many times do I need to reply to this? Ask Fat Haggis and Dr Bruce…They know where I live. Do you want my street address as well?

Why does the RS apologists keep asking this question? I think living in or out of Thailand makes no difference on what my opinion is on Thai politics. I may well be a Pakistani living in Europe, but when I state that the rice scheme is corrupt and full of irregularities does it detract from the truth because I am a black Pakistani?

NO!!!!!!!

Get over it.

Chill winston, i dont care really where you live but can tell from your post style its unlikely your experiencing things this year first hand so i asked. ill take that as a no you dont live in Thailand amd it was just a hunch but lets be honest you dont have to live with things day to day either so its hardly the same when you do nor would i expect you to take that into account as people mostly dont.

Opinions are one thing experience first hand is quite another, i try not to get embroiled in politics too much if I can help it, its not really worth the ulcer, I just happen to not like a one sided debate on things and theres always more than one side to any story and far too much story in press releases specially worded with little corroborated facts here all too often. Im not any colour but do enjoy making colours read and consider inconvenient anomalies...or lack of facts backing up claims, kinda brings them down to earth a bit.

Lets just say politics outside of any country is only ever half the story compared to people inside with on the ground daily exposure experiencing things. its also not the same everywhere just because of your locality either I dont even have a handle on British politics fully as im hardly ever there, i may have an opinion but i dont go around trying to convince people im some kind of fully informed authority either or pretend the north of the UK sees things as the south does or even has the same concerns... thats also false. especially when its censored to one extreme like Thailand is at the moment. That would be wrong and untrue, being British I just dont generally like half truths and bull.

To tell you the truth i have friends in both colour camps and guess what ? i play devils advocate to both or point out inconveniences they would rather ignore because both refuse to consider the wider picture or want to consider the whole truth ...they are in fact just like you ...so ill pipe up what others dont wish to hear whenever I feel the need or wish, better get used to it buddy. I know everyone likes their own fan club but it makes for very boring forums on debate .. trust me........ but do try to remember at the end of the day i really couldnt care less who runs Thailand as long as its the people who get to decide their own fate. its really all the same to me and politicians are the same type of people the world over and mostly liars, they have to be and yes Ive known a few of them personally in my time too... aint no innocents out there in politics m8 and nice guys dont float to the surface too often. Its generally not allowed.

I dont care if you believe i moderate or not tbh but theres a couple of million forums out there though so its entirely possible theres some that moderate them dont you think ? its not rocket science yknow.. simple tools and automated notices.mainly but workload nevertheless. especially debate based forums. This may as well be one

You could be a blue oompa loompa for all I care bud im not racist, sexist or any ist and certainly not fascist, ill remember to make certain dispensation allowances for you in your future posts knowing your not in country. Dont fret. who knows I may end up out of country for a few years myself.

The rice debarkle has been full of holes for decades to varying degrees so far as im informed and read... not just now... so really who cares and whats new ? business as usual .. no shocks there, just like to see solid proof and closure for a change not just the usual talking heads or its all just yadda yadda yadda like ive heard for years and years.. from both party govs, supporters and more besides.. stick it on the table and prove it in court or just like all the other travesties that go unchecked... in Thailand it didnt happen... I expect it to be no different this time, does that upset you ? because it did me for years... im well past expecting anything from any of them but BS these days.. dont forget to keep you blood pressure regulated jamie, exercise regularly and eat your greens.

As my old pop used to say....anything outside your daily personal world and family life is all just gravy...outside your immmediate family and especially leaders dont give a crud about you and you shouldnt give too much respect or dereference to them.. They are 99.9% in my experience on their own selfish agenda, nothing to do with all the claims and promises, thats just window dressing.

Now excuse me im off down the pub and watch the beautiful game with a lock in till morning ... ahh what joy. Be safe m8 and stick a prawn on the barby or something ta taa

2000 people is a very small sample space. Let's see how they feel as the months go on and the Thai people realize they have no say or control of themselves as they live under a coup junta dictatorship. I wish them well.

They didn't have as any say or control under the other lot so what's changed then ?

To me at least , it seems the the military appear to be taking definitive and practical steps to try and resolve some of Thailand's issues, unlike the other lot, who talked a lot, made lots of big plans but did nothing other than lie and cheat

I was actually waiting for fabby to jump in and say its Suthep's fault he is s fascist you know....but looks like binnsy beat him to it

Suthep is just a part of a larger plan and probably regarded as the best coup in history, this is an important event for Thailand and you may ask , why the coup , ask General Prayuth.

This poll I can absolutely agree with.

Most Thais just want to get on with their lives and have no wish to be disrupted and become involved with political squabbles and see the country dragged down or brought into a civil war by crap politicians who only care about their own interests and power and could not give a rat`s behind about the Thai people or only see Thai people as canon fodder to be used for their own ends.

Since the Junta have taken over, peace has been restored and normality has again resumed. I sincerely hope the Junta, who are leaders of action and not just hollow words, threats and promises that mean`t nothing under the last Government and the Government before them will remain in power forever and bring stability to the country, and I am sure this point of view pertains to the majority of the Thai population.

After 13 military coups the Thai military is bound to get something right. And to make sure its efforts are not subsequently undone by a democratically elected government, it seems it may continue to exercise the power to veto or amend any new laws created by the National Assembly. Although the current coup leaders seem unsure of the validity of their coup so as to assure they will write an amensty clause in the new interim charter.

Although I would tend to agree with the overall sentiment of the poll results, I perceive this as more of a propaganda document than true reflection of Thai sentiment. There can be little doubt that the majority in this country are both relieved and encouraged that governance and accountability appear to be on a more transparent track, however ,I find it hard to relate the correlation of the results opposite the nature of Thai public. The result of any poll can be greatly influenced and exaggerated by the wording of the questions.

A feel good exercise at best.

There is no question that not living here gives you a distorted and immature outlook on Thais and Thai politics. Being here, daily, gives a far better insight than sitting in the outback thinking you know what Thais think in a country far, far away that you occasionally visit.

Expert you are not, opinionated you are (Yoda)
