Hi I am in a bit of a muddle. any help appreciated.....

I have resigned from my job and they will cancel my WP on thursday 10th July. However, my Extension of stay related to work is not due to expire until 15 feb.

I have already booked and paid to go to malaysia tomorrow am.

My extension of stay is a single entry. I was planning to get a tourist visa from KL....

Now i read maybe i should have cancelled my EOS myself?? I thought this was something that happened automatically?

1) If I go to Thai embassy KL will they issue a tourist visa when i still have an extension fo stay until 15 feb 2014....how about if I give them a letter about finish employment from my company?

2) What happens if i exit and renter on the same Extension of stay...??? What happens there?

It's too late to cancel trip and i cant afford to either.....what is the best thing to do n the circumstances???

The two agencies don't talk with each other, either by phone or computer interface etc.. You can ride out the Ext. of Stay but if and only if you choose to work again will the issue come up. At that point you would be asked for an overstay payment and risk deportation.

Unless you have a re-entry permit your extension will be worthless as soon as you leave the country.

They should issue you a tourist visa.

Kl is not is inconsistent on issuing tourist visa. It is not the best place to go for any visa.

i am not so lucky - so I am not sure I want to risk overstay - plus the new rules about blacklist being discussed on TV email today....I also am likely to work again in future..plus my trip is booked and paid for...

Ubonjoe my EOS is a single entry permit which i have not used...does this not mean it will still be valid when i go out for first time? and not automatically cancelled?

Would you just apply for tourist visa without drawing attention to existing EOS or give the embassy a letter from my soon to be ex employer accepting my resignation???

Your extension of stay cannot be single entry or multi-entry or any entry. It has nothing to do with entering the country. As the name implies, it is Immigrations' extended permission for you to STAY IN the country. Nothing to do with crossing borders in either direction or re-entering Thailand.

If you do not have a separate re-entry permit, when you leave the country your extension of stay will be dead. However you manage to return to Thailand, if you didn't apply and pay for a re-entry permit after you got the extension , the extension will no longer be valid.

rolleyes.gif You are confusing VISAS and EXTENSIONS OF STAY.

A Visa allows you into the country. You get those in a consulate or embassy outside of Thailand to enter Thailand.

An extension of stay you get in Thailand at immigration.

What you probably got was an extension of stay for EMPLOYMENT ..... to work in Thailand.

As I said you get or got that from the local immigration in Thailand.

Did you have Work Permit?

If so, that was ended as soon as the company you worked for notified the Labor Department of you leaving your job.

Once you quit or left your job your extension for that job you received from the immigration in Thailand ended.

When your Work Permit ends when you leave your job, your EXTENSION for that job also ends

Now your VISA, the one that you used to enter Thailand has a DATE on it.

If you are past that date now, you are now on overstay. If not, you can stay here until that date on your visa,

If your VISA is still valid, you can still stay in Thailand until your VISA expires.

When you are staying on an EXTENSION, you have a reason for that EXTENSION.

When the reason for that extension ends, so does your extension.

If the reason for your extension ends, and your visa is past it's expiration date you need to exit Thailand immediately as you are then on overstay.

Many people get confused and get in overstay trouble because the don't understand the difference between a VISA and an EXTENSION, which is why I preach it so often.

Bottom line: Is your VISA still valid or not?
