Need URGENT ADVICE

Featured Replies

Hi

My passport was lost and i have applied for a new one but my visa runs out on the 11th July, it was a 60 day tourist visa, can i get an extension at immigration for 30 days even though i dont have my passport?

i have a police report and letter confirming i have aplied for a new passport.

Advice needed as i have to wait up to 9 weeks for new British passport and i don't want to be on a long overstay now the new rules are in effect.

Thanks

doesn't your embassy give you a temp passort until the real thing arrives?

No they didnt.

You can get an Emergency Travel Document from the embassy. But the best thing to do with that would be to go to the UK and get a new passport. Highly unlikely that immigration will extend anything in that, your visa was lost with your passport.

do you mind if I ask what Embassy was this? Seems odd to me that you are 'stranded' and the only thing to show is a police report..

I imagine Ubonjoe or some of the other regular experts on here can offer specific advice.

The British embassy is not involved at all in the process of renewing or replacing passports. That has been subcontracted. The mentioned ETD is from the embassy, but only if you go there and ask for it.

Immigration could locate his tourist visa entry in their database and do the extension if he gets a ETD. He will not have to return to the UK.

Ok sounds good but dont i need to show a ticket out of Thailand to get a ETD?

I have lived here for 7 years and was on a marry visa for 6 years and only recently went on tourist visa which i have had 2 60 day double entry visas.

If i wait until passport comes and pay 20,000 will that do? or is it too risky for getting a ban although i should get the passport within 90 days ?

Err based on the time they are taking to issue passports don't wait for the new one and go on an overstay you could find yourself banned from Thailand for a year or two, not just paying THb 20k go and get and ETD and get it sorted out with immigration

That's good. I only remember that Jomtien couldn't find me in the system when I lost mine, and eventually just left at BKK with a new one (only 3 weeks back then) where it also took them some time to find me (not actually sure they really ever did, despite me having my boarding pass from that entry).

The British Embassy are advising that the ETD must have an itinerary (which is listed in the ETD itself) and that because of the passport fiasco, so many Britons are applying at the moment, that they will only make an appointment to issue said ETD for travel booked within the next couple of days.

British Embassy are also advising its citizens who are caught in the current passport renewal trap that Thai Immigration may not accept the ETD if the noted itinerary has not been followed.
