indothai
Anyone knows the cost of a new alternator for Toyota for a 2007 Camry 2.4 ? I was quoted 19,000 baht for on at the dealer. Is this correct?! It seems rather expensive, to make matters worse, the mechanic said that the part is out of stock and it is in shortage due to it being blacklisted?! Kwasaki
Try another dealer or go to a local recommended repair workshop. Usually exchange recons are available from local workshops, ask the Thai guys where to go.

transam
Forget new, you can get a recon much cheaper. As said above, look for a recon shop....
indothai
Sathorn Silom area. Update: The "dealer" or mechanic was duping us. Quoted 19,000 baht yesterday and after raising some suspicions they said they can get one for us for 15,000. Wife asked what the difference was, "dealer" said 19,000 can be had today where as 15,000 will be on a "wait list". Long story short: We found a company that sells new alternators for 12,000 and will be getting it today to be installed on the car. Definetly not going back to this "dealer". transam
Even that price sounds over the top as you only need a recon, perhaps you are getting a "new" recon.........
indothai
We are getting brand new. not recon. But the seller was a tad suprised to why the part was expensive, especially for a "common" car.

OK because there is an alternator shop near Phrakanong BTS station. I walk past it often.
indothai
VocalNeal, Thanks! I'll keep that in mind the next time an alternator in my other car dies out.
