Morakot
Singapore libraries to destroy copies of gay penguin book Row erupts as information minister backs decision to pulp all copies of book about male penguin couple following complaints Associated Press theguardian.com, Saturday 12 July 2014 13.50 BST State-run libraries in Singapore have deemed a children's book about two male penguins raising a baby chick inappropriate and are to destroy all copies following complaints the content was against the city-state's family values. The country's information minister Yaacob Ibrahim has said he supports the decision to pulp all copies of the book along with two other titles after the National Library Board (NLB), which runs 26 public libraries in Singapore, pulled them from the shelves. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jul/12/singapore-libraries-pull-gay-penguin-book

Popular Post saakura
Duh. As if children who read that book would have suddenly turned gay. This will only spread more ignorance.

Popular Post sustento
Good one….they shouldn't be encouraging homosexuality. Can you tell me what the results would be were they to 'encourage' homosexuality? Would people who were previously straight suddenly decide to turn gay? Can you see any circumstances where, after reading a book about penguins, you would suddenly decide to become gay? Have you ever taken any classes in logic? If so you ought to ask for your money back. Edited July 12, 2014 by sustento

By allowing books with gay messages to kids then there is the risk that kids grow up thinking it is OK.

The kind of ridicule, discrimination and oppression that they have to go through in real life, i dont think anyone will decide to turn gay after reading a book. On the other hand, it may help children in understanding that gays are people who are just born that way and not as a lifestyle choice.

soihok
For those that don't know, its illegal to engage in Homosexual activities in Singapore. Yet prostitution is legal. Not that the two are remotely connected. Far from it. There are some strange rules there.

What a horrible thing if kids don't grow to be anti-gay bigots and that the kids that ARE going to be gay feel that they won't be hated by their societies (such feelings lead to high rates of SUICIDE among gay youth).
