Nong khai border crossing

Featured Replies

Hi there, can someone tell me how safe it is to leave your car at the nong khai border overnight? I have to stay in Vientiane overnight and am a bit concerned about leaving it there..

It is as safe there as leaving your car anywhere overnight.

I have never had a problem.

If you're referring to the pretty secure fenced off parking area back behind where the vans and buses load to cross the bridge, I'd say quite secure. I've left my car there 2-4 times a year for the last eight years for up to 10 days, never a problem. Baht 100 a night, reasonable enough for no worries.

Mac

i left mine a the wat once for 3 days/nights an took a tuk tuk the border

If the suggestions given so far do not satisfy you there are a number of expats in Nong Khai who may have other suggestions. They are not too difficult to find... if you have a few hours to check out the town.

Thanks for the info fella's.. Just returned to khon kaen after 3 days in Vientiane. Left the car at border no worries at all. Arrived in Laos Monday evening and was at the Thai consulate at 715am Tuesday morning to get a tourist visa.. Along with about 500 others.. By the time the gates opened I reckon there was about 800+ in the line! More than likely so busy because it had been closed on Monday and last Friday but either way the place was mobbed. That said I got ticket 180 after paying a local that had someone already in line.. Once I got my ticket he took care of the rest.. Cost me 2000thb but saved me hanging in line all day and maybe not getting the visa the next day. I did get mine the next day and had no worries re-entering today At the Vientiane-nong khai crossing..
