noitom
This Thai blueberry picker sad story has been around in Thai news for years. The Thai workers always later claim they were swindled or not paid in later news. There are generally two stories in Thai news about this blueberry picking in Scandinavia. One is to celebrate the fact that Thais can get work over seas as fruit pickers. The follow up news is always about Thais getting screwed in some way. Popular Post siampolee
What is neglected is the fact that those fruit pickers are recruited by fellow Thais who run these employment agencies So who is actually cheating who?
Lupatria
At least they don't keep Thai slaves to work on their factory ships, even though provided food and accommodation would be much better than that of a 3-star hotel in Isan.
tonbridgebrit
Right, so Cambodians and Burmese are in Thailand, and they work as cheap labour. And Thais go to Sweden and Finland, are Thais more hard working and cheaper than people in Sweden and Finland ?Maybe Sweden and Finland should go straight to Cambodia, and give work permits to Cambodians. After all, the Cambodians are cheaper than the Thais. OR, Sweden and Finland don't allow people from outside the European Union to come in, only allow people from the poorer areas of the European Union to go to Sweden and Finland. If you're going to let in non-European Union labourers, why have Thais and NOT have Cambodians ??
