Firstly, well done to the Embassy/consulate .... a great idea

For your information Thaivisa readers

I went to Savannaket yesterday.

The taxi driver said pick-up passport at 3.30pm ... I said no he said yes yes.

I got there and there was notice in the window saying something about 3.30, I asked and they said yes pick up at 3.30pm.

Went back at 3.30 .... The first 150 tickets were told to get in a queue, they were dealt with speedily, 151-200 were seen at 3.45, 201-220 at 4.00 and so on

I asked the embassy guy who was organizing us and he said it was everyday not just today.

Suggestions for wasting the 5 or so hours, find an internet café, drink beer, go to the new shopping centre with bowling alley and cinema, or even savanna vegas.

To all the people who are going to respond that they went 3 months ago and it wasn't like that. I am not interested, I am just reporting it and will not respond to any stupid posts by ignorant people

Thanks for the info, but old news. Website states it started the same day turnaround on 30th June ( sort of trial run ). Plus other readers have already reported on this. Always good to use the search button.

But thanks anyway and FYI I am not ignorant, just stating facts.

Thanks for the info.

I was wondering about this already as I booked flights that required "same day pickup". Now that it is for sure i am much more at ease.

Going there coming Wednesday!

So this technically makes getting a visa there an in/out affair?

I don't imagine this will last long because I have a feeling they are going to start getting a lot busier there.

The OP fails to tell what visa he actually got. Technically yes in/out however as the website states, this is for non immigrant visas, just like the in/out service you get in Changwattana . There is no mention of TV's on the site. Regardless of what the other member posted, the website IS up to date.

So before there is a mass exodus to Savankhet, please remember this is only for non immigrant visas. Apologies in advance is this is not correct. Just check before you leave. Savankhet has been a little gem over the years, just hope it stays that way.

I was there tuesday, getting TR visa. There were more than 600(?) people. Everyone got their visa same day, no matter what visa their were after.

It's getting awfully popular if 600 people were there!

I've been there twice, last time 1 year ago. There were probably 70 others there. about 15 of which were Westerners.

Yes. It was closed for friday to monday so that's why so many people on tuesday. I had number 468 to pick up my passport after 3:30PM but when I got to the window, they said not ready yet. All we with big numbers had to wait 4:30 ->

On a slower day as it happens yesterday probably about 100 people they started giving back passport at 3:00PM instead of 3:30PM. So, it is really depends on the workload and if they are done earlier, then collection time is earlier.

I went there on 24th July.

Got there at about 9:30am.

Asked for Non O multi based on marriage. Copy of house book, copy of wife's ID, copy of marriage cert and copy of photo page page of my passport. I was asked two questions " Do you have original of marriage cert?". I did and then was asked for 5000 baht fee. Told to come back at 3:30pm.

Savannakhet is a nice small quiet town. I walked around a bit. Went for a foot massage. Had some BBQ chicken and sticky rice with somtam by the river. I then walked back to the Consulate. I was there about 2:30. Sat in a shop opposite and had a drink, not alcohol as I thought it best not to smell of alcohol when collecting passport and then going through passport control on the way back to Thailand.

The gate opened early, about 3:10. Got my passport and started the journey back home.

All in all painless.
