Returning for my Second Entry

Featured Replies

Hello! I'm finding all the new visa regulations a little bit confusing since they seem to be changing daily, so I'd appreciate some opinions on my situation:

I'm Canadian, and I got a 30-day visa-on-arrival when I first came to Thailand. When that visa expired, I went to Laos and got a double entry tourist visa. After using my first 60 days, I got a 30-day extension, which I'm now coming to the end of. I'm leaving for Malaysia this week, and I was planning to return to Thailand a few weeks later to use my second entry. I already have the visa, but I'm still starting to feel a little concerned because it sounds like even foreigners with visas are being refused entry in some cases. I don't have a bunch of back-to-back tourist visas, which I assume works in my favour, and I'm also not trying to leave and immediately re-enter (i.e. do the in/out thing).

My concern is that even though I'll definitely be leaving Thailand after my second 60 days are up, I haven't booked a flight out of Thailand because I'm still finalizing my plans. Am I likely going to be expected to show an onward ticket in order to use my second entry? Also, I'm subletting an apartment in Thailand rather than staying in a guesthouse, but I'm worried that could also appear suspicious. Am I worrying too much or does it sound like I might be refused my second entry?

Thanks for the advice!

With just one visa exempt entry and on your first tourist visa you should not have a problem on entry. But I suggest not doing it at the Malaysian border. If at all possible I would do it by air.

You though may have a problem with your tourist visa being expired if you stay of the country for a few weeks.. You need do the 2nd entry before the use before date on your visa sticker which is 90 days from the date your visa was issued.

Wait - so on my visa sticker there's an "enter before" date, but I thought that referred to the first entry (which I've already used). Does it actually apply to both entries? I thought the whole point of the double entry visa is so that tourists have time to travel around SE Asia and then enter Thailand again.

You must use both entries before the enter before date that is the date the visa expires. Some stickers have use before on them.

Most embassies issue tourist visas that allow more than one entry with a 180 day validity but Vientiane and a few others only do 90 days.
