Love is a much-overused and misused word which we would do well to reserve for those who deserve it. Our families and friends, say. But the exhortation to love our neighbour, let alone every other member of our particular nation, is just plain silly.

What we all need to show is a little more tolerance and respect for each other's right to hold views different to our own, be they about the political parties which run our lives or the players selected for our favourite football team. Then we might, just might, have a more peaceful and caring global society.
