Lin Hui the panda is not pregnant

Ultrasound shows Lin Hui the panda is not pregnant.

China sent Lin Hui and Chuang Chuang, a male panda, to Chiang Mai Zoo in 2003 for research purposes. The two giant pandas will stay at the zoo for 10 years.

Zoo director Sopon Damnui (โสภณ ดำนุ้ย) said veterinarians performed an ultrasound on Lin Hui yesterday to see if she was pregnant after mating with Chuang Chuang in January. The pregnancy check was negative, Mr. Sopon said.

He said reproduction failed probably because the pandas are still too young and the environment was not suitable for mating.

The zoo has set aside a budget of 15 million baht for the panda research project to adjust the environment and prepare the pandas for the next mating season, Mr. Sopon said.
