Question on a Thai Visa

Featured Replies

Friends plan to travel round trip from the US to Thailand, arriving in Thailand September 5, and departing Thailand for the US on December 4.

Just looking at this ticket, it would appear that a visa extension would be needed, since it would be about a three-month trip..

However, they also have a round trip ticket from Bangkok to Malaysia, departing BKK October 29 (less than 60 days after arriving from the US), and returning to BKK on November 28.

They are concerned that when someone in Thailand Immigration looks at their primary ticket, showing around 90 days elapsed time, they may balk at granting a 60 day visa. Logically, it would seem that someone could look at both tickets and piece it together that they will be in Thailand for two stays, both under 60 days.

Any opinions or suggestions on this would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.

Apply for a Single Entry Tourist Visa, good for a 60 day stay, can be extended for another 30 days if needed for 1900 Baht. Then shouldn't be a problem to make a visa exempt entry for the short stay before returning back to the U.S.

Immigration in Thailand normally does not look at tickets.

Visa are given in your country Thai consulate or embassy. Not in Thailand. And they will not look at tickets either.

The crackdown is not aimed at them... they are genuine tourists and have nothing to worry about..

Having a stamps record showing you've been living in Thailand for years without a legal reason is what they are clamping down on.

Get a double entry tourist visa and forget about the extension and reentry permit, it's cheaper and no hazzles about visiting immigration.. A double entry will cost about 1320 baht extra, the extension and reentry permiy 2900 baht. No brainer!

OP's friend does not need an extension and does not need double entry visa. Has one stay less than 60 days, and another less that 30 (visa exempt).
