Restrictions on 30 day Tourist visa for germans

Featured Replies

Thanks for all the advice.

I will go for the tourst visa option in Singapore and will bring as much documentation with me when I get back in to thailand (bank statement, booked flight back to Germany for in 2/3 months and so on)....

Singapore is not a good/friendly place for Tourist visa. You've been warned, let us know how it goes.

Can you tell me which nationality has been excused from the recent visa-exempt crackdown?

Any way you read it, my post was accurate.

Nationalities which require VOA, or pre-arrival visas.

Were did I mention that anyone was excused? I merely mentioned that not all nationalities are treated equally and they will be tougher on some than others. Without going into details, I've already run into trouble listening to people like you on here who think all are treated equally.

Now, please give it up. I didn't post here to get into silly arguments.

You're right with your points here Tropo. And It's not just racism. Say a German married couple in their 50's show up at Thai immigration in Bkk with a "clean" passport. Gentleman in suit and Madame in Chanel.

The scrutiny recieved will be totally different than a 25 year old German with a passport full of back to back Thai tourist visas sporting blond dreadlocks and covered with tatoos, carrying a bag of 100 Vinyl LP's looking like he just stepped off the DJ platform.

Thailand is just catching up with most other country. Hopefully this "progress" is delayed a few years!

So, I just come back from DMK immigration officer. Me and my girlfriend decided to ask there better, instead of all the guesswork in here.

I told them my plan about flying to SIngapore and returning the same day. They checked my passport and said that there will be no problem at all. They even called in 4 other colleagues that checked my passport and said there wont be any trouble coming back to DMK.

They recommended to show a pre-booked ticket out of Thailand within 30 days and also suggested to bring the booked language course of my girlfriend, even though they think no one will be asking for it. My passport, however, has several different visas from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Japan, Indonesia and they said it looks like a traveler's passport, despite my 3 months stay in Bangkok now.

Just wanted to post this as several ppl mailed me with the same worries. If you are in doubt, go to the immigration officers directly, bring your passport and, at best, someone who speaks thai. Don't hope fore qualified answers in a web forum ;)

Have a good sunday

My trouble is although I am in my 50's and essentially retired I still look in my late 20's or early 30's. Also, I have blond dreadlocks. So although I am a real tourist, immigration officers are likely to take a dim view of my appearance and assume I must be doing something illegal. I a. Worried about being rejected when I next try entering Thailand at the airport. Not sure what to do.

Especially when you were being told that it was no problem, but you still replied with attitude and incredulity.

Good to know now you've made your mind about the forum and will not further waste other's time here.

I'm not trying to say that you will have problems, but an immigration officer at the entry booth or a land border may not agree with what the Immigration officer told you at DMK. The decision making process is complicated and rather subjective, so each immigration officer will make on-the-spot decisions that may differ. Once a border official refuses entry, there's not much that can be done.

There is an appeal procedure for refused entry.

Please don't grill me about because that is something I've learned from reputable sources in this very forum.

Perhaps at the airport, as you're already in Thailand and they have to figure out what to do with you, but at the land borders you're screwed.

yes, the immigration officers said that flying into Thailand is THE way to go to be safe if your passport doesnt have any other things that they might hold against you. But we have talked to several immigration officers who work daily on the entry/exit checkpoints, granting entry to Thailand through DMK. As I will be flying into DMK again, that's why we chose to ask them directly at DMK.
