Retirement Visa Process

Featured Replies

Hi there!

I have read all about the process of applying for the Retirement Visa, and made a list of all the requirements etc. I am from New Zealand. I just have a few questions:

One: is it best to apply for the Non Immigrant Visa in my own country first, or should I enter on the Tourist Visa that allows 60 days and a 30 day extension? Then once in Thailand, do the applications for the Non Immigrant Visa?

Two: I see part of the requirement is a letter from the police stating you are not a criminal, but cant be more than three months old. So Im guessing that needs to get done just before I depart for Thailand in my home country? Also is this only needed for orig application or do I need a new one every year?

Third: Letter from the doctor stating I dont have any of the dreaded diseases.... same question is it used just once or needs new one every year?

Three: Letter from my Embassy verifying my monthly income... is this only if Im earning money from my country, like pension etc ? if I have my own private funds from inheritance, will this Embassy visit not be necessary? Or do I need my embassy to verify Im a citizen?

If I qualify for the 800,000 in the Thai Bank account, do I still need to show income as above?

Would welcome any advice! Thank you

Better to obtain the Non Imm O Visa before travelling.

You do not need a police report or medical.

If using 800,000 in a Thai bank you need a letter from the bank and an up to date bank book showing the same balance

Great!! Thanx for taking the time to reply!!

The criminal background check and medical certificate are only required if you apply for a "long Stay" O-A visa in NZ.

It would be easier if you got a single entry Non-O in NZ. You will get 90 days permission to stay on entry. If you do not presently have a bank account in Thailand, the first priority when arriving is to open one and transfer the 800k immediately as it has to be seasoned for 2 months before you can apply for the 1 year retirement extension.

Once the money has seasoned you can apply for the 1 year extension normally during the last 30 days of your permission to stay.

Like mentioned above, there is nothing called RETIREMENT-VISA. You are looking for an EXTENSION OF STAY BASED ON RETIREMENT,

Glegolo

It's perfectly okay to call the Non-Immigrant Longstay O-A visa a "retirement visa". That's exactly what it is.

It's not okay to refer to an extension of stay based on retirement as a "retirement visa".

I don't think the embassy will issue a single entry non-o for being 50 or over. They will only do the OA like most other embassies.
You will need to get the non-o from the honorary consulate in Auckland
