All Nai Harn Restaurants and Shops On The Ocean Side of The Temple Are Being Dismantled.

I just rode by Nai Harn Beach tonight and everything was being torn out from the Temple (Wat) wall to the ocean, all the restaurants and shops. Sorry, I didn't have my camera with me. I was somewhat shocked, but then I thought about what the rules are from what I've heard from my wife; anything on the side of the road that has electric poles is legal. Anything on the beach side of the poles is not. We'll see. Also since the Wat is on Kings land, so is everything on the ocean of the Wat. Makes sense to me. Maybe I've been here too long...

Might be time to upgrade that 300 baht nokia phone so you can shoot some photos :).  Yes indeed interesting that they are going as I thought that just taking their structures down was as far as things were going to go.

LOL! I left all my "devices" at home this evening. No one calls me, other than my wife… And yes, she has a much newer phone than I. I had to set it up though! Music, photos, ringtones, Skype and email, FB, etc… biggrin.png I may go by tomorrow for a photo shoot…

Haven't seen you around town, SP, but then again, I don't get out much!smile.png

I hope they do something about all the garbage everywhere. Mrs. Nomad and I spent the other day walking around Nai Harn. I am used to the littering and garbage in Thailand, and the garbage washing up on the beach in low season, but between the washed up garbage, the piles of garbage left by beach goers, or dumped in and around the the ivy covered dune area west of the mini lagoon, the Styrofoam and garbage ringing the mini lagoon. and the garbage dumped in the open space along the road east side of the main lagoon, the amount of refuse visible every where you looked was utterly overwhelming. I can't imagine anyone visiting Nai Harn right now and having any impression of it other than that it's a complete dump. I did notice a 100m section near the middle of the beach was clean. I asked one of the lifegaurds who cleaned it, and he said the lifeguards did, everyday.

What I find so hard to believe is why doesn't the local orbortor, tessaban or whatever, have a couple full time people to clean the beaches in their jurisdiction.  This is their most valuable asset, yet they take backhanders from everyone for usage of "their beach" and fail to use any of their ill gotten gains to keep the beach clean. Instead, they ask with a straight face who is going to clean the beach now that the cash cow beach chair sellers aren't there.

Jimi007, now that Don's saloon isn't around, it makes it harder to see the regulars around.

Cleanliness of beaches has always varied greatly in Thailand. My understanding has always been that it mainly depends on owners of beachfront businesses getting themselves organized or not.

I remember years ago the ride from Patong to Nai Harn Beach,

Used a rented MTX125 dirt bike as alot of the road was dirt track between Patong Karon and Kata...

Upon arivial at Nai Harn beach was such a great place to swim and relax, had it all to ourselves a few times.

now

Very sad to see the state of Nai Harn beach area at the moment.

Hopefully they will tear down the old band stand looking thing that has been falling aprt for years, in the parking lot , home to the soi dogs..

The way the Thais work it could take years to clean up the debris from this one time very beautiful beach.

I went by today as well. I was talking to a Thai guy at the site that use to be the restaurant  on the rocks at the very southern end and the guy that use to run the old small place pulled up next to us, patted me on the leg as he's known me for many years. I asked if he was okay, he said sure… We then talked a bit about what's going on over at the other side by the Wat. Any additions that were made to the original shops are being ripped out, is what they told me and it seems to be correct.

This is the best thing to happen in phuket in a long time. Clean beaches means more tourist of a Better kind. Eco Tourism is the way to go. Tourist pay more for less so to speak. I hope all moved Restaurant find a place to resume business. Legally

I was at Nai Harn late afternoon/early evening and even the chicken sellers that normally occupy the spot in the car park close to the beach had moved down to in front of the wat.  Maybe they didn't want the dirt flying in the air to land on their chickens.

Brilliant!

Not

Why is this not good?

Because he wants a chair to sit in. An umbrella to shade him and a restaurant to eat in that's less than ten paces away.

Starting to look like it used to many moons ago.

Nice, I think I've seen that photo before. Way before even the Wat was there!  The beach could now use a MAJOR cleanup now though!

Funny how there are buildings still intact yet you said everything from the wat wall to the ocean was being ripped out. I hope you're never an eye witness in a criminal case against me because you need a new eye prescription.

I don't know if I would go as far as saying they were clean. Im happy the illegal occupation is gone but seems to be more trash than ever. How about some more bins that get emptied daily or pay someone with an ATV equipped with a sand rake to get some of the garbage off the sand. If the powers that be set up a clean up date and handed out some rakes and garbage bags I would happily help clean up. But then someone needs to be posted there to hand out tickets for littering. That includes cracked open coconuts with plastic straws sticking out if them that probably take longer to decompose than nuclear waste. A side note...how about powering up the free showers that line the wall at Nai Harn beach. Lemme guess, those were suddenly broken when the restaurants started charging 20 baht for a shower.

Funny? I guess you didn't bother to read post #12? No bother, I'm sure you know everything about everything that ever happens here in Nai Harn. Please keep me informed…

Watch crime rates soar.... Oh wait no one keeps records.

Sorry I don't agree this is good, ( can I say that?) , every beach on Phuket  being  just like every other beach.  what,... some  15 miles of  nothing but sand... Which is what the nat'l park should be like but instead has a perfectly legal  ( apparently) and excruciatingly  annoying  disco going all day. What the heck ?

It's just too  bad the  Thai  are incapable of enforcing and following civil rules  such as regulating  the  amount of businesses allowed , so out goes baby with the water and the bathtub, and then entire house, really.

I'm not seeing the happiness, I'm seeing , well I cannot  write what I want as it is now illegal to do so.
