Can a holder of a current non O visa (and in Thailand now on that visa) , apply for an Extension of Stay based on retirement, before the O visa expires in 6 months time, where the financial requirement is based on Embassy certified letter of Income in excess of 65000bt per month?
I wish to apply for the Extension immediately rather than wait until 30 days before expiry of the O visa.

The visa itself is not the issue, but the permission of stay stamped in your passport.

Some immigration offices now allow to extend 45 days before the permission to stay end.

You don't have to wait for your visa to expire. You will be extending your permit to stay not your visa.

You can do the extension of stay during the last 30 day of any of your 90 day entries you get from the visa.

Edit: Jomtien does them at 45 days.

I am in the same situation as the OP, and my main concern is whether the immigration office will accept the Income letter from my embassy without further questioning. Since I am self employed I have assigned myself a monthly "salary", based on a yearly income. All above board, but will immigration accept this?

Knowing at least 2 months beforehand would otherwise give me a chance to salt the necessary money in the bank.

What evidence of your income did you provide to the Embassy? Or did you obtain their letter on the basis of a statutory declaration not requiring any proof?

Phuket Immi require further evidence of proof of funds to back-up the Embassy/Consul income letter (as of December 2013).

As I use the "mix and match" option (Pension plus deposit) they advised the same "seasoning" period (3 months) for the balance on deposit next time - this December. ("seasoning" not required previously).

The first officer seen refused everything and said "Only 800,000 baht in bank for three months".

So I bypassed him with a wai and stood in front of the Captain's desk.

She was the one who informed me of the new requirements and when I queried the "seasoning" she said emphatically " I'm the Boss here ".

Yes Maam!

The majority of immigration offices will accept the income letter without questions asked.

If asked for back up to the letter the best proof is a Thai bank book showing regular transfers for outside the country.

Thanks for the very helpful information.

What is the "correct" price for the Extension and the correct price for a one year multi entry permit ?
