NESAC will study the feasibility of three mass transit systems

The National Economic and Social Advisory Council (NESAC) will look at the details of three new electric train projects before making its comments and recommendations to the government late this month.

The three mass transit systems are the red line linking Don Muang and Chiang Rak (เชียงราก), the blue line extension from Hualamphong (หัวลำโพง) to Bang Khae (บางแค) and the purple line from Bang Seu (บางซื่อ) to Bang Yai (บางใหญ่).

NESAC chairman Gothom Arya (โคทม อารียา) said NESAC agreed with the three projects in principle because they will help save energy and the environment. The advisory council, however, is concerned that the turnkey contracts to be awarded to winning bidders may have holes that can be exploited by corrupt officials, Mr. Gothom said.

He said NESAC will thoroughly study details of the projects and forward its opinions to the caretaker cabinet on July 27.

First I would like to say that I welcome any expansion in the mass transit system in BKK. :D

But, if they wait until there is no chance of corruption in Thailand than the projects will never get started.

It must be the XXXX'st comittees that do the same job.

It's exactly in line with the "vaporware" policy of Thaksin :

-1 you announce a plan (we want to build 45556558 km of new train lines on the next 3 years)

-2 but because you are a great democrat you set a comittee to "study" the project

-3 people are very happy, start to make plans, medias broadcast the news

-4 the comittee works long time, then make a announcement with some modifications

-5 then the government announces that they to need to study... the study's results (still because they have a great concern about people's feeling and ideas)

-6 people are still talking, but feel a little bit desorientated

-7 then, just to be sure, the gvt creates a another comittee : let's call this time a "council", with larger responsabilities (they must study the train plan, and another one, whatever)

and then, you start over the process from step number 3.

VAPORWARE.

Two of the three ( Blue line & Purple Line North) were at the stage of bids for initial contracts for systems works being submitted and considered this time last year - so this announcement is yet another delaying ploy.

It has become increasingly obvious that NONE of these projects will even come close to getting off the ground before there is a democratically elected government in place.

Its time for the bull to stop............. :o:D

and what happened to the fleet of NGV buses that were supposed to be rolled out within 9 months

City to get 2,000 modern vehicles

BANGKOK: -- The Transport Ministry plans to serve commuters in Greater Bangkok with 2,000 modern air-conditioned buses, equipped with a global positioning system and contactless transfer ticket readers, in nine months. Opas Phetmunee, acting director of the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), said yesterday that the 2,000 new buses would be environmentally-friendly natural gas vehicles, and would collect a flat fare of only 10 baht that will allow passengers to change buses on newly designed web-like routes without being repeatedly charged.

you have to wonder why the media does not crucify the massive cast of incompetents that pretend to run this country.
