None Thai with None Thai Wife, Her visa options?

Featured Replies

My friend , who is from Sweden, has a visa extension based on retirement using a combination of money in the bank and pension. Now his wife, who is a Filipino, has been here for a number of years on different visas. Apparently now is close to running out of options, other than the dubious visa supplied by Visa advertising firms, apparently there has even been an advert on this site for such a service, or an ED visa which she really wishes to avoid. Is there any way that she can 'ride on the back' of his visa.

Her renewal date is approx. three months after his upcoming date. His renewal is sometime in October.

Thanks

as you said he has an extension, so she can piggy back that. The people in the know will answer soon with more details.

She can get an extension of stay as his dependent. She will need to get a single entry non-o visa from a nearby embassy or consulate first.

She will need their marriage certificate (In Thai or English) and copies of his passport photo page and his extension of stay stamp to get the visa and then the extension.

I always thought that both parties had to qualify for their own visa so this is nice to know.

I realize that you're asking about Thailand, not Korea; but I thought I'd mention that, when I was last in Korea on an E-2 visa, my wife was eligible for an F-3 or whatever visa. She didn't even need to obtain it from an embassy. She just showed up with a return ticket and got a visa on arrival. She then converted it to the F-3 and received an alien registration card (so we then had "his and hers" alien ID cards).

Your Swedish friend and his Pinay spouse won't be inventing anything new.

Been there done this. You need to go to Immigration with an original marriage certificate and no problem. We had a problem that the marriage certificate was back in the Philippines but the Philippine embassy wrote a letter confirming it was registered in the Philippines. A copy was therefore accepted.

Very easy. She qualifies as accompanying spouse. Get marriage certificate certified translated and then get the translation and the original certified at MFA. Submit docs for extension at DOI. 1,900 thb. Oh yes and a non O visa from a neighbouring consulate.

Or, if traveling to the home country, you can also easily get a 1-year multiple-entry Non-O for the wife. This is what we did.

I didn't even know that was an option, but the honorary consulate (in USA) suggested the Non-O rather than an spouse follow-on extension.

The Non-O does require departing Thailand every 90 days, but that was no issue for us anyway, we never spend 3-months straight in Thailand. Plus, she got 12 months (plus up to three more on last entry, I believe?) rather than just the amount left on my extension (about six months), although it may be a bit more costly (US$200 for the 12-month, multi-entry Non-O) it was worth it to avoid Thailand immigration hassles.

I have a friend in a similar situation. He is English , she is from the Philippines and not yet 55. In a few months time he will make his application for a retirement visa what are the current options available for his wife,s visa. Thanks for any info.

The age for retirement extensions is 50 or over not 55

If he gets an extension of stay (not a visa) she can get an extension as his dependent. Nothing has changed since this topic was started.
