I am getting my second UK passport while i am back in the uk at the end of the month. I want to put my Type O marriage visa in it. Problem i have is you can't get a second passport on the same day. It wioll arrive at my mums on the 6th, i fly back on the 8th. I am not 100% confident it will arrive on the 6th so i might be forced to put it in my current passport which, as it stand, only has 4 pages left.

I will be back in the UK in november. Is it easy enough to get the Type O put in the new passport even though the visa in my current passport will still be valid?

Visas cannot be transferred,

Only an extension of stay can be transferred to new passport if the old passport has been cancelled.

Cheers Joe. I "should" be ok with three pages untill my kazakhstan visa is out of date next may. I'll get another new passport then as it will be full. So i take it i would then put it in my new passport? Chances are the second passport will still have zero stamps in it.

They do not transfer visas.

If you have a valid visa in an old cancelled passport you can use it on entry to use the visa along with the new one. They will stamp you into the country in your new passport,

Superb. Does that mean i can use the visa on my actual second fresh passport too?

(i'm sure you want to ring my neck right about now haha)

Normally they will only do it if the old passport has been cancelled.

Depending on which side of the bed the immigration officer who processes your extension of stay transfer got out of that morning, you may or may not need an Embassy letter as per the attachment. You would therefore be best advised to obtain one regardless IMHO.

You can download the form here, fill it in on your computer and print it out: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/files/file/20-transfer-stamp-to-a-new-passport-form/

You'll need both passports & the letter to immigrations from your embassy, photocopies of the ID page of both passports, photocopies of the visa you used for your entry, the entry stamp put in your passport & the arrival/exit card, and  photocopy of your current extension stamp and, if you have one, your re-entry permit.

I did it a couple of weeks ago at Jomtien and they put three stamps in my new passport ... one indicating my original O-A visa, my last entry at Suvarnabhumi and my current extension. Since I went in late in the day I collected the passports the following day. No problems. Very quick & painless process.

When I obtained my new US Passport, I carried both passports for awhile. About two months later I went to Immigration and they transferred my O visa stamp and my retirement stamp to my new passport. A word of warning. If you already have bank accounts setup, it is important to go to the banks and report the new passport number and you have to bring in both passports to do the update. If you are renting an apartment you should update those records as well. When I apply for my retirement extension I will be bring in both passports because I have not left the country for two years and having a new passport with only the transferred stamps and a old departure card is suspicious, especially when requesting a multi entry visa.

You will not need both passports nor copies of your old one when you do your extension. There is more than enough information in the stamps they did during the transfer of your stamps. You can fully retire your old passport.

Last year I had a new passport I had just gotten when I did my extension . I attached copies of old passport pages to my application and they trashed all of those after they did they did the transfer and attached copies of my new they made to my application and gave me my old passport back. That was with a TM6 departure card that was over 5 years old.

This week when I did my extension all I had was my new passport with my old raged TM6 taped together because if finally fell apart where it was folded to fit inside my passport.

My TM6 is held together by tape too. Fortunately I scanned it when  it was in better shape. Not sure if the TM6 or I will decompose first, but it can't be long before it is reduced to an unrecognizable shadow of its former self.
