Latitude and Longitude points in Krabi Province

Featured Replies

Important locations and landmarks in Krabi 'Town', and Ao Nang, Krabi Province, Thailand.

Copy the coordinates inside the parentheses and paste into Google Earth or Google Maps.  And it will go to the precise point.

[ Example: for the Thai Immigration Office location this is what should be copied out of the parentheses -  8° 3'6.40"N, 98°54'16.00"E ] and pasted into Google Maps or Google Earth

Thai Immigration Office, Krabi Town,
Latitude  8° 3'6.40"N  Longitude  98°54'16.00"E  (8° 3'6.40"N, 98°54'16.00"E)

Tesco Lotus, Krabi Town,
Latitude  8° 6'30.67"N  Longitude  98°56'19.17"E   (8° 6'30.67"N, 98°56'19.17"E)

Giant Crab Sculpture / Statue ... (Landmark), Krabi Town

NOTES:  I have used this format because it is what I know and it is how I can capture the Latitude and Longitude with the devices I have and the software I have with which to read them.  The intention of this post is to provide location information for Krabi Province because I have found Google Map and Google Earth 'map' searches not to be well indexed for sites in Krabi 'Town' and Ao Nang.  Maybe updates by Google will come soon.  Example a search for Tesco on a Google Map Tesco Near Krabi does not reveal Tesco.  A normal Google (non map) search is likely to find it - but that necessarily reveal the GPS location.  One particular example is the Thai Immigration Office was moved a few years back and some mapping systems still show the old location - if they show anything. And a physical street search following signs can take one to a dead end street because signage is not at critical turns on the route.

I just now noticed at time of posting that Google seems to have updated some of the locations in Krabi Province (indexed - searchable)

I captured these latitudes and longitudes using my camera and retrieved the location using a photo app that reads metadata.  I then went to Google Earth and made them more accurate by physically moving the pins to front center mass of the object.  Then took a new reading from Google Earth. I plan on adding more of these as it is so easy to do using the camera.

I honestly wish this was the way people gave directions to anything here. I suppose the only problems would be when a small mistake was made, or converting. I think somebody, somewhere should decide on a universally used format. I really think things will be leaning towards coordinates as directions in the coming decades.

I agree... Google Maps is available on every Android device.  if one turns on the Location Services - then likewise turns in on in devices such as the camera then finding places is fairly easy to do.   I use the Google Maps in my Android phone because it comes with the price of the phone.   There are much more sophisticated devices - wish I had one... but this one is near universal and nearly free. I used a Free photo file manager downloaded from the Internet.  It has a nice feature in that it reads the metadata of a photo automatically and produces a link to load Google Earth with the photo GPS coordinates - which in turn causes Google Earth to move to the precise location... This method is not perfectly accurate but can easily be adjusted once looking closely at the map image.  I have a phone app that reads the metadata too and it is quite good ... I just prefer to upload the photos to my PC laptop and use the other software.

I used Google Maps in my Android phone to drive a rent car from Ao Nang to the Malaysian border checkpoint for a border run - over 300 kilometers one way... it worked quite well.. there and then back by a somewhat different route.  It is quite a comfort to pull over to the side of the road and do a very accurate map check... I do have a pocket WiFi device that provides my phone Internet access at very high speeds using AIS 3G signals which makes it all easier.

Bottom line the simple copy - paste of the Latitude and Longitude into Google Maps or Google Earth is quite amazing to watch ... and removes a lot of anxiety in looking for where you are trying to go ...

Thanks for the comments.

Are you sure your coordinates for the Krabi immigration office are correct?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place
