BANGKOK: -- About 300 golden teak planks wrapped in plastic sheets were found buried in the resort in Mae Hong son province owned by the son of former PheuThai party leader and interior minister Charupong Ruangsuwan.

Army personnel, police and local officials of Pai district went to the Pai River Rock resort owned by Dr Charuwong Ruangsuwan with a backhoe to search for suspected war weapons and other illegal items believed buried under the ground in the compound of the resort.

About 300 golden teak planks were found buried about three metres under ground.

More diggings are to be carried out to search for war weapons thought to be hidden in the resort.

Dr Charuwong was not at the resort and was believed to have escaped overseas while Mr Charupong is also living in exile abroad.

I'd expect little else from any rich powerful Thai.

your not wrong..only it encompasses the entire planet...i think hard labor would be a fitting punishment..just to see how the other half live..for a pittance..(and they are meant to be grateful for the work bestowed on them by upstanding hiso citizens of thailand)

I'm sure the wood was there before the good doctor built or bought the resort so like Sgt Schultz he would know nothing.

He would have fled because he knew he wouldn't get a fair trial giggle.gif alt=giggle.gif>

One wonders whether these illegal timber cases plus all the other various crap that Thailand seems to encompass, like people trafficking ,illegal ivory trade etc,  would be getting addressed if there hadn't been a coup.

At best they'd be at the very bottom of Tarit's 'to do' list.

It indicates just how far above the law some of these people think they are and are completely blasé about it.Deserve everything they get, but I doubt if they will!

I tend to think there are a few get even things going on at the moment. Expect to see more tit for tat tale telling.

The typical behaviour of some of the rich as evident in frequent illegal parking of their expensive cars to avoid paying the Bt20 parking fee.

Could you give just one example of this "typical behaviour of the rich"?

Hmm, confusing, of course it's 'golden teak', but considering where most of the 'finds' of poached wood have been made, shouldn't it be called 'red wood' instead, in line with the 'sympathies' of the un-rightfull 'owners', but then that's another botanic species, confusing...

P.S.1: On the one side, that scum was so sure to be above the Law, untouchable (the more so in that part of the country, with police and officials in their pocket), on the other side some (while others didn't even feel the need to hide it...) must have been so well aware of the illegal aspect to feel the need to store the wood, literally, underground, even 3m. deep here...

P.S.2: Has anyone, of those still present on Thai soil, meaning among the big guys, not their gardeners, been arrested yet, jailed maybe? Erm... Accounts blocked, assets seized? Erm...
