Using Bangkok Bank ATM card to draw foreign currency at overseas ATM

Recommended Posts

I know the baht rate is not favorable at the moment.  But if some reason you need to use your Bangkok Bank ATM card to draw foreign currency at overseas ATM, what are the charges involved ?

And are these charges levied by Bangkok Bank or the overseas bank ?

You'll get the Visa exchange rate which can be checked at their web currency exchange website and then Bangkok Bank charges a Bt100 fee.  See below cut and paste from Bangkok Bank website.   And of course the ATM you are using may charge a fee like how Thai bank/AEON ATMs charge a foreign card fee of Bt150-180.

I withdrew money in Laos a while back and was charged the equivalent of 80 baht by the Laos bank and 100 baht by Bangkok Bank. So 180 baht total. Cheaper to withdraw Thai baht before you leave Thailand and use that in Laos, as it's acceptable in most places. Also easy to change without commission.
