Extension of stay for ED Visa?

Featured Replies

Hi, I recently went to Chaeng Wattanna, paid the 1900 baht, and got another 90 day extension of stay. I thought all was ok until my classmate told me that she also got a ED Visa extension for 90 days on top of the extension of stay, in which she was given a white sheet of paper stapled to her passport.

Can somebody explain what the difference is, and should I be concerned? This is my second 90 day extension of stay application.

Thanks for your feedback.

That paper is the next time she has to report her address. You should have one too. (I've recently finished an ED visa) Another member will be able to explain in better detail than I can soon. But don't worry, it's not a big deal.

Cheers Craig. Much appreciation for your quick feedback.

In regards to my Immigrant B ED Visa, it expired a few months ago. Does that need to be extended too, or is the extension of stay enough?

I don't know much compared to other members. Your 90 day extension is also the time you need to report your address. You'll be fined in you don't report your address on time, I don't know the amounts. You've confused me about the B ED visa. I only know an O ED visa. I don't think you can extend an 'expired visa' my friend. Wait for someone more knowledgeable than me to reply.

There are some really good guys in TV who seem to know more than Thai immigration do. I'm sure they'll give you some good advice later or tomorrow. I'm not sure of the facts, so I won't speculate,

I find your post a bit confusing

ED Visa is 12 months for the Visa

Every 90 days you should get some paper work from your school which includes your lease agreement which has your address to get your extension

If you move during those 90 days on your next extension you have to give them a new lease copy and tell them you moved, if you didnt move then you just give them the old one again

You say your ED Visa expired.... not sure what you mean by that.... in the past you were able to extend your visa after 12 months and get a new full ed visa attached to it

however the rules are changing on August 29, anyone on a ED Visa that is older then 12 months has to go out of country and reset their ED Visa, people will only be allowed to stay 12 months in Thailand on ED visa

if they want to continue they got to get out and come back in.

Best to contact your school if you got some questions like that.

These are extension of stay, not visa.

Visa is the sticker that one gets a in Thai embassy or consulate.

Appreciate everyone's feedback. Please allow me to clarify further

- Non Immigration ED VISA issue date 11th Feb, though there is an "Enter before" date 10th May. This was where I got the three months VISA date from

- 90 day extension of stay is no problem. Did this twice before the 90 days had lapsed

- I didn't do my 90 day address report both times though I did submit a change of address form which they stamped and gave me a receipt for

Questions are:

1) If all Non Immigrant ED VISAs are one year, what is the relationship with the "Enter before" date, which in my case was stamped as three months after the VISA issue date?

2) As it appears as though I didn't do the 90 day address report both times during my 90 day extension (though I did submit the change of address form during my most recent visit), what is the stance on this, and fines?

3) My classmate got a white slip attached to her passport, with a stamp on it listing the date of expiry (90 day period). Is this the address report slip? What happens if I didn't get one?

Thanks again for your feedback to these questions!

1. Not all are. Your was not.

2. Could be 2,000 Bt fine, but you changed address, so you may not be fined.

3. it could be next reporting slip. even if you din't get one, still you are responsible to report. That is sually done at the same time of the extension.

Ok, this is a little confusing. So if I got my extension of stay till November, and in this case it appears that my VISA has lapsed, does that mean I need to extend my VISA too when I went to immigration?

Your visa validity means nothing once you enter the country. The permit to stay you get from a visa is what matters and that is what you extend. Visas cannot be extended.

Some people say they have a one year ED visa when all they are really doing is paying for a year of study.
