I have a non B 1yr multi visa with a work permit issued based on a self co-owned company. I'm recently married and wonder if I can simply get an extension of stay based on marriage without getting a new visa (non O)?

My visa expires mid October, can I get the extension anytime or is there a timing issue?

I have the 400k sitting in the bank for months now.

My actual visa is in an old passport that has been cancelled. I have a new passport which I've used for the most recent entry/exit (along with the old passport for the visa). Is that going to present any problem when getting the extension of stay? Once you get an extension of stay and the visa expires, does the visa have any meaning anymore? Will I still need the old passport with the then expired visa when entering/exiting (assuming I get my exit/entry permit)? Will I need the old passport and expired visa when renewing the marriage extension a year later?

You can apply for your extension during the last 30 days of any of the 90 day entries your visa allows. You do not have to wait for your visa to expire.

Take both passports with you when you apply for the extension. They will do an annotation of your visa info and the last entry from it. After that you should never need you old passport anymore.

After you enter the country your visa expiration date means nothing.

What if I don't reach the last 30 days of the 90 day period? My visa expires in oct. I'll be back mid sept but plan on exiting early nov. My visa will be expired but the 90 day stay won't even be half done. Is there a timing issue regarding an extension of stay on a visa? I'm married and have a WP.

Once you have the extension, you will need a re-entry permit to keep your permisison to stay alive if you travel abroad. Re-entry permit is 1,000 baht for a single and 3,800 for a multiple. It is valid for the duration of the current permisison to stay.

If you need to leave but would be back before the 90 days was over you could get a single re-entry permit to keep that entry valid and then do the extension after you return.

I know I got some answers here already, but I just want to belabor it a bit to make sure I'm understanding clearly.

My 1yr non b visa expires oct 23, 2014. I just returned last night, so I have a fresh 90 day permission to stay stamp through dec 15. I plan on traveling to the US Nov 8-29. I also plan on getting a 1 year extension of stay based on marriage. My questions:

1) I understand that I cannot apply for the 1 yr marriage extension until 60 days into my current permission to stay (would be mid November)?

2) In order to travel in Nov I need to purchase a reentry stamp? Local immigration office? Are we SURE this will get me back into LOS Dec 1st (my visa will expire oct 23rd so that makes me nervous).

3) after return in December I go and get a marriage extension (also at local immigration) before my permission to stay expires dec 15th? I do have a handle on the paperwork and banked money for that.

4) and I can get the marriage extension even with an already expired NON B visa (not O)?

Thanks in advance!

1. Correct you can apply for the extension during the last 30 days of your entry but some offices will allow you to do it 45 days early.

2. You will be getting a re-entry permit for the remainder of your 90 day permit to stay. Your visa expiration date has nothing to do with this. You will have no problem.

3. You will have no problem as long as you have all the required paperwork.

4. You will be extending your permit to stay not your visa so it expiring means nothing.

So I've had a setback. After putting together the perfect full pack of docs for marriage extension, the nonthaburi immigration people, after a good bit of time researching and reading what looked like procedure docs, said I couldn't apply for the extension because my visa had been a non-B. I would need to either get the extension based on work, or go get a non-O first. So what's the best option for a quick non-O? Suvanaket?

There is no requirement you need a non-o to get the extension. Just something they decided themselves.

Savannakhet does visas on the same day you apply.
