Several initiatives to boost safety of female passengers launched on Mother's Day

BANGKOK, 13 August 2014 (NNT) – The Ministry of Transport has taken the occasion of Mother's Day, August 12, to launch several measures aimed at boosting the safety of female and child passengers on all modes of travel.

The Airports of Thailand Plc. on August 12 launched a 'lady parking' area at its flagship Suvarnabhumi International Airport. 450 parking slots have been made available under the scheme – the parking slots are available on the second and third floors of the airport's several short-term parking buildings.

The special parking will also be made available at five other airports operated by the AOT, at later dates.

Regarding travel on tour buses, coach company Nakhonchai Air has launched a 'lady zone' cluster of seats for female passengers on board tour buses in some of its routes.

The special seats have been set aside on the Bangkok-Khonkaen, Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani, Bangkok-Chiang Mai and Bangkok-Chiang Rai routes.

The Department of Land Transport revealed on Tuesday it was studying the feasibility of a 'lady taxi' project, in which the taxi drivers will be female.

According to department officials, in addition to boosting the safety of female passengers, the project might also increase employment of women, enabling them to bring home more income.

Employing the legal requirement of using air-bags and seat-belt usage, under all circumstances (less the latter pregnancy stages and certain illnesses - which exempt) would be a better start, than a few 'lady parking spaces' - idiots.

What about improving the safety of ALL passengers, with all

the bus crashes, train derailments, this is only been brought

forward now ,AFTER the young girl on the train tragically

lost her life, this always happens in Thailand, something

happens that brings out concern among the public,THEN

the powers that be react, horse, stable door, kind of thinking.

Stand by for the next project to protect lady taxi drivers.

Without meaning to sound crass and uncaring if (and is is a big if)  a group of women raped a man - would that lead to similar provision for men only buses / taxis etc or would everyone nudge and wink as mutter 'lucky bugger'.

Note to the vociferous Puritanical / morally rightous brigade on TVF- its a hypothetical question to hopefully spur discussion. Not an opinion.

That's just window dressing, bar the idea female taxis (known around the world).
Buses are actually safe for females, as there is almost always a bus attendand onboard. It's just copying railway project.

Why not a long term aproach of inluencing the culture, by removing violence from soap operas?

Totally idiotic indeed.

Totally segregationist: women on the left, men on the right, don't you dare travel together....

Idiots? Hmm...

Are you saying that some taxis have the airbags disabled?  You do know that not every vehicle on the road has airbags?

It's not a legal requirement in Thailand to use rear seat belts (where most passengers sit).

Yeah these will ONLY be used by ladies driving vehicles!  And Thai drivers ALWAYS obey these types of regulations.  Dreamers! ! !

Lady parking on 2nd and 3rd floors of short term parking at Swampy so does this mean that males will not be allowed to access these floors at anytime to prevent loitering to attack a woman  ?  Security guards at lifts and stairwells etc. ?

Well thought out.

I watched a lady driver try to reverse park between the lines in a car park that was virtually empty, after 5 or 6 goes she called over the whistle man and got him to direct her it took another 3 goes before she actually had the car parked between the lines. I certainly hope they will have a lot of these whistle men available for these female drivers but then a lot of thai males have the same problem, probably do better teaching them to actually drive before giving them the car keysblink.png

Of course they will, the same way they obey the invalid parking bays at shopping malls and super markets!
