Tourist visa question

Featured Replies

This is a rather silly question but I need to have my mind put at rest anyway! I have recently obtained a three entry tourist visa for my forthcoming trip to Thailand. On the visa it says that I must enter before the 9th of January 2015. Does this mean that I have to enter Thailand for the first time by this date, or does it mean that I have to have used all my entries by that date? I'm pretty sure that it means I have to enter Thailand for the first time by that date but I just want this confirmed. My travelling plans have been delayed slightly and I'm worried that I have to have used all my entries by that date which would reduce the six months that I am planning to so spend in South East Asia. Thanks in advance for any advice on this!

You must use all the entries by then. That is when your visa expires.

That is the End date of validity of the Visa..... You must have entered for the last time BY that date....  You need to get cracking to get the max benefit out of your visa....  have fun!

That is absolutely terrible to learn that. My wife is waiting on her residency permit and they have told us this could take months. I'm going to have to get another visa now because I want to go for six months. bah.gif

Triple entry visa is good for up to 270 days in country. Each entry can be extended for another 30 at immigration, fee Bt 1,900.

Don't panic just yet. If you made an entry to Thailand on 8th Jan 2015 you would get 60 days, this could be extended for a further 30 days at immigration for a fee of 1900 baht.

You did not say, but if your wife is Thai you could get a further 60 days to visit her again at immigration for 1900 baht.  Take you up to around the beginning  of June 2015 if my calculations are correct.

(of course if wife not Thai then disregard last piece)

what are your new dates of travel....  what the other guys have said is spot on.... about extensions etc.

If you know your dates, you will have a much clearer idea of what your present visa can do for you

As long as you do your first entry on or before you have 90 days left you can still get a total of 6 months. You enter and get 60 days then extend it for 30 and then do your next entry before your enter before date and get another 60 days and then extend it.

Is you your wife Thai?

Yes my wife is Thai but she doesn't live in Thailand, she has been a UK resident for six years. We are waiting on her new residency permit which is what is delaying our plans.

You can get a 60 day extension to visit you wife. I assume she will be traveling with you.

You could of gotten a multiple entry non-o visa based upon marriage that would give 90 day entries for a year.

I had no idea I could do this. With the multiple entry non-O visa how long could you end up staying for? With my current visa, you're telling me that as long as I enter Thailand for the first time with at least 90 days to go before my last entry, then I'll still be able to make it last six months if I make the necessary extensions? Phew! I hope the Home Office process her application soon, I'll have to make my first entry no later than October the 11th? Is that correct?

With the multiple non-o you can get almost 15 months of total stay by doing an entry just before your visa expires. A 90 day entry from the visa can be extended by 60 days also.

Oct. 11th sounds about right to have the 90 days remaining.

But you could get about 5 months total even if you could not use but one of your entries by extending the 60 days by 30 days and then 60 days to visit your wife. The a border hop for 30 days if needed.

This is all getting a little confusing now! Can I give you a proposed itinerary as an example so that I can clarify my arrangements?

Enter Thailand for the first time on the 5th October.

Leave the country after 60 days on the 4th of December.

Spend 2 weeks in Cambodia.

Renter Thailand on the 18th of December and get another 60 days.

Leave Thailand on the 9th January and renter the same day to gain another 60 days which can be extended a further 30 days meaning I don't have to leave Thailand until the 7th of April.

You can build your itinerary as you desire with the only constraint that each of the three each periods in country lasts up to 90 day,s and last entry is made on or before the "entry before" date.

A quick comment on the first part of your itinerary. 5th October to 4th December would be 61 days, so you would need an extension or you would end up with a one day overstay.
