Options for Visa.

Featured Replies

Hi, I know this subject has been covered many many times but I tried find an answer specific to my situation. Any guidance much appreciated.

I am a UK national resident in various parts of Asia for the past 20 years. My wife is from HK and my daughter a UK national born in Singapore. We have had a property in CM for a few years but have only really stayed as tourists as it's only been short term. We would know like to spend more time there consistently but are confused regarding visa options and requirements. We don't mind coming and going as tourists but don't want to run into trouble with immigration and run the risk of being turned back, especially with a 2 year old.

What would be my best option? ED visa?

I am 48 years old and currently in the UK so could apply for visa at Thai Embassy in London.

Thanks in advance

M.

Maybe single entry tourist visas first and then get ED visas from Laos or Cambodia after 90 days (tourist visa is 60 days + 30 day extension from local immigration). Schools are now reapplying new ED visas for most students because of the new rules and they are very busy.

To start with you should get at least 2 entry tourist visas. If possible a 3 entry would be best.

You get 60 days on each entry that can be extended for 30 days.

If one of you were to get a ED visa and extension for stay the other could get an extension as a dependent. Attending a language school only allows 90 day extensions. Enrollment in a university would give a one year extension.

In a couple of years when you turn 50 you will qualify for extensions of say based upon retirement.

Hi ubonjoe, when you say 2 tourist visas that's one for myself anyone for my wife? I can apply for those from UK?

Thanks timwin..

What is meant is a double entry tourist visa for you and a double entry tourist visa for your wife and try to both get a triple entry which would be even better.

Each of you would get a tourist visa that allows for 2 entries that give a 60 day entry for each entry.

You can get them in person or by post at the Thai embassy in London or at one of the consulates in person.
