Sunuek, or Osama Adam

BANGKOK: -- A SUSPECT accused of stealing several mobile phones during a train trip yesterday overturned his reported confession, after undergoing a re-enactment of his alleged crimes.

Speaking to reporters after the re-enactment at Hua Lamphong train station yesterday, Sunuek, or Osama Adam, 19, denied that he stole 10 mobile phones from their sleeping owners during a night train trip as reported in the media, saying he was praying on the train floor at the time of the crimes, while he had booked a ticket for an overhead sleeper bunk.

Bought four phones

The Pakistani national also claimed that he had bought the four mobile phones found in his possession after the alleged crimes from a market.

Adam was arrested a few days after the crimes took place on a night Bangkok-Narathiwat train on August 5. He initially confessed to his crimes but said he had acted alone and did not use chemicals to put his victims in a stupor in sleeping bunk car before stealing their mobile phones.

Police later led Adam to a rented house in Pathum Thani and searched it. Pol Lt-Colonel Sombat Malai said police were in the process of securing an arrest warrant for another suspect he did not identify. He said Adam had given confusing accounts about his crimes and refused to confirm that he acted alone, or with the help of other accomplices.

What would happen if he got caught doing this back home?

He would be treated guilty until proven innocent he would be held for as long as 72 days until the police collected all of the evidence and witnesses necessary to convict him.

The police would also beat a confession out of him.

the sentance would be a lot worse.

I'm glad they caught the suspect and hope we get an update here with his sentencing details when that time comes. It appears he has missed his chance for lenient sentencing now that he has withdrawn his confession.

If he did do it and is convicted, give him the option of punishment per Sharia Law instead of 2 ears in a Thai Prison. Let's see how devout a Muslim he is.

Two 'ears' in prison is better thane one hand in Pakistan.coffee1.gif

In Hong Kong I dealt with a Pakistani on 9 counts of Fraud and he was happy to plead guilty until he heard the offences were contrary to a section of the THEFT Ordinance as that one word put the shits up him.

He insisted he was not a ' tief ' ( sic ) only a con man but calmed down when he realised there would be no ' off with his hand ' which is what he would have likely faced as a thief in Pakistan as he lived in a very rural area where Sharia law held sway.

depends where you are talking about.. Generally if it is his first offence he would probably get a suspended sentence, a fine and a general slap on the wrist. If not his first offence could do some time for sure,, but not long.

In Thailand who knows, could be jail for a few years,,, ooops,,,

.....reminds me of the foreigner driving by the scene of an accident........suddenly....all fingers are pointing at him.....

....in this case 'several days after the incident'.......

...if he in fact bought 4 phones at a market this could easily be verified........

It appears that these Parkistanis are creating more problems in this region. Just recently they have cut off the head of their room mate and stuffed him in a luggage in Singapore. Well, its not Thailand. These two would be fed for 2 years and hanged to death. So mates just watch out if there are these people around you.
