Thai Customs Duty

Featured Replies

I sent a box (8 kilo) of 2nd hand baby clothes to my wife in Thailand by TNT couriers from Australia

They called her to ask for 1000 bht for duty before delivery

Do the following events seem normal

Firstly sending the courier to her house to pick up her I.D

Then sending another courier days later to pick up her passport

Eventually she got the box.I.D. and passport after having to pay 2470 baht, 1000 duty 400 storage and another charge for the rest

Because her last visit to Australia was over 6 months ago was the reason she had to pay duty

The clothes were not even worth that much here in Oz ($92.00) let alone Thailand

Amazing Thailand at work :o

a lot of the favourite teams have not been winning in the world cup. Though I doubt there is a connection betweens gambling losses and arbitrary customs duties.... :o

So whats your point

I was seeking some advice whether this seems the norm or not from informed board members

As for Soccer i couldnt give a rats who,s playing

If you send cloths that large quantity, it only implies that these are for sale, not for personal use, even though they are second hand.

The same rule applies to Australian customs as well, even more ridiculous duty!

maybe I should have added the sarcasm tag ? :o

or you should do a search of the board for other stories involving customs.

your best chance of not being stung by the tea money experts is to hand carry it into the country - and that applies to many countries in the world.

Just unlucky your parcel got picked IMHO. You can see how they do things at customs if you go to ( www.customs.go.th ) then look down the left menu to postal parcels. :o
