webfact
Islamist militants 'kill reporter James Foley on video'(BBC) The Islamic State militant group has released a video online purporting to show the beheading of a US journalist. The victim was identified by the militants as James Foley, a freelancer who was seized in Syria in late 2012.The militants said it was in revenge for recent US air strikes against the Islamic State group in Iraq. The video has not been independently verified, but the White House said if it was genuine, the US would be "appalled by the brutal murder".Foley's family wrote on Facebook: "We know that many of you are looking for confirmation or answers. Please be patient until we all have more information, and keep the Foleys in your thoughts and prayers."Foley has reported extensively across the Middle East, working for America's Global Post and other media outlets including the French news agency AFP.Full story: http://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-28862268-- BBC 2014-08-

Popular Post smedly
lets not start a whole thread about religion please The problem is actually a deep seated instinct that we all have - if you understand it then you can actually do something about it - it's called tribalism, just consider human behaviour through the ages and you will see evidence of it, from a very early age we have all been there done that, religion is just another expression of the same thing, you see it in Thailand and I'm not going to elaborate but it's obvious A very modern example of it is a TV show call "big brother" - put 20 strangers into a confined living space and it won't be long before they have formed into two or even three distinct rival groups, we do it by race - skin colour - football teams etc and on a larger scale by countries I am an atheist because I think religion is evil and I have plenty of evidence to support that belief - just take a look at almost every conflict the world has ever seen and you will find religion involved at some level I don't hate anyone for their beliefs as long as it doesn't involve me and they keep it to themselves, unfortunately all too often that is not the case - in some religions if I don't believe what they believe then I am an automatic enemy and need to be either converted or cleansed from the earth We all rely on oil and unfortunately most of it is located in the middle east - if it wasn't the world would be a very different place - but it is and it is a world resource that we all depend on - if all the middle eastern countries decided to keep the oil for themselves what do you think would happen - should they have a right to do so if they wanted ? interesting question Should the west have liberated Kuwait - was it our business to interfere ? Should we interfere in countries that are slaughtering people because they are an ethnic minority ? There is evil in this world and sometimes I'm ashamed to even be human as that makes me part of it The Bible very clearly teaches about good and bad - why is that many millions of believers clearly chose the "bad" The bible says love thy neighbour - turn the other cheek etc this act described in the OP is just pure evil at it's highest and it churns my stomach even thinking about it

Well in Australia Muslims are marching and calling for a jihad against non Muslims and it is all perfectly legal. They are free to publically call out this hatred against non Muslims but if other Australians did the same they would be arrested for inciting religious hatred and the government would be in overdriving kissing the feet of and apologising to Muslims. There would also probably mass demonstration world wide with burning of the Aussie flag.

Go clean your sock, hater! To the guy in Iraq. Not sure if your infrastructure develop, or PSD, or what but I commend you. I never had the desire to go bsvk after the failure of the SOFA. I have bad concerns of sitting in an Iraqi jail. As I read about what is happening I frequently see the faces of men I worked with, female secretaries I hired, or Arab and Kurdish students from Irbil to Baghdad. I get it. However, as equally impressed I was with the humanity and kindness I was showed (in the day time, to my face) I was appalled by the savagery and horror that neighbors would visit upon others. You may have many lovely experiences, this is great. But there is great darkness there as well. You'd not likely be able to penetrate this as an observer, irrespective of how much your men support and like you. Good luck.

Popular Post boomerangutang
Today, the middle east. Tomorrow, Europe. Why are so many Muslims desperate to get to Europe? Several reasons, including: better lifestyle, opportunities, a society which doesn't stone people for wanting to date before marriage, etc. Probably the biggest underlying reason is: there are virtually no resources left in the M.East. It's an example of what happens to a once-fertile ecosystem when it's been thoroughly exhausted. That doesn't excuse the atrocities that go on there, but it is a window in to what the human psyche is capable of. No other animal comes close to our species in regard to blatant cruelty. Watch out Nigeria. It's also a once-fertile country which has a fast-growing population which is fast exhausting or toxicifying its natural resources. And it's about half Muslim, most in the north where desertification is most prominent. If you want to see a group of people devolve to doing dastardly things: take away their resources and leave only sand and salt water. Then saddle them with a mean-spirited religion. Then watch as they multiply and increase their anger & hate of themselves and everyone else.

The west and other countries around the world have to stop propagating the poison that it is okay to practice any form of religion. Schools in places like the UK have to stop this 'tolerance' of any religion and all children should only be taught the cold and hard scientific and empirically obtained evidence of which we base our lives around. It only leads to other problems. I chose to be a Buddhist for over 40 years, but now my belief system revolves around science and nature. As a species with very complicated brains, we (nearly all people) need a belief system to guide our lives. I agree the Muslim belief system is a colossal pain-in-the-you-know-what. Hopefully its adherents will gravitate towards less mean-spirited beliefs. As for radicals, it wouldn't much matter what belief system they adhered to. Look at Charles Manson or Jim Jones at Jamestown or fatboy Kim in N.Korea. If a person or a group wants to harm others, it's as easy as pie to find ways of justifying it. God Bless all, and condolences to the Foley family I think you overestimate how much the west depends on mid east oil. Saudi has by far the largest share of oil exports to the west. The rest could disappear tomorrow in a mushroom cloud and the west would recover in a matter of weeks. If the west and all its workers were to disappear from the middle east, leave them to their own devices, no aid, no advisors, no meddling in their politics the whole region would devolve into an even bigger series of tribal wars. Sometimes I think that is just what we should do, embargo the whole mid east, let then sort themselves out for a generation and then go back in and see if we can convince them to join the civilised world.
Popular Post Kooweerup
Totally barbaric the poor guy and his family. Why is it that we never hear boo from the Muslims when this sort of thing happens? If Islam truly is the religion of peace and tolerance, which I doubt it is why isn't Islam and Muslims rising up against these types of people. They sit back and just accept it as if they are giving full support.
